I checked the timing which is fine, and did the proper routine headgasket check which is fine aswell.but for some reason i hear the engine studering alittle when at idle, but when i step on the gas it hesitates. Also iv'e checked for codes and engine is ok and even installed a new distributor cap.Last time i put new sparkplugs in and it did'nt do asmuch. So i think the only thing i need to look at is the replacement of sparkplug wires, but like i said everything is normal asfar as codes and head gasket.I'm not 100% sure that it is'nt the timing but what i can do is on friday i can do the T.D.C routine and line everything up again and see what happens. On the sparkplug wires theirs a number 89,I'm thinking that is the year they put on the wires. And if so it's time to upgrade, but the dealership told me 126.99 cents for wires:aigo:Thats crazy.i seen some blue one's on ebay for around 50-70 bucks and thats more like it.any sugestions?

I'd put a timing light on it to make sure, only way to check it for sure. It would be close with lining up the marks but it could still be off quite a bit. You can get a set of MSD at Autozone or someplace like that.

buy a turbo.

Why does someone always have to post something like this when there is a lack of power thread...?

Anyways, 87 octane is fine for stock timing. Actually it might even be okay for more than stock timing. I remember cuel said he ran 14-16 BTDC on 87 octane with headers/exhaust.

I'd say depends on how healthy the motor is on the octane, compression ratio, etc., on what octane you can run without pinging. Cre was actually running 85 octane. From what I've read the lower octane will burn better then the higher octane.

lower octane will burn better, but like aj 88na said if the compression ratio is lower cause of age then 91-92 octane would not burn properly and you will get hot spots in the combustion chamber witch causes preignition. i would check timing and plugs. or you could go turbo lol.

Well guys iv'e been having a dilemma,i'm sure my piston rings are fried do to i have excessive oil on my sparkplugs which i think is the problem. It sucks that i don't have a garage because i would be MORE THAN HAPPY to take the engine apart or just slide in a GTE.Unfortunitly i live in a apartment which prevents me to take the engine out and park the engine by it's self in the next parking space.so i guess i'm just going to need to get a loan for about 2,500 to buy the gte and the cost of labor. But my SUCCUBUS OF A WIFE IS A MK3 HATTER.

maybe you should do a compression/wet compression test first, get you timing set properly to.

so if i'm running 87 in my gastank that would cause this maybe?

yeah bro check your spark plugs and the wires. Or maybe your fuel pump is going bad or your fuel injector need to be cleaned. cause i was having the same problem with mine. right after i gave it a good tune up and pour two bottles of fuel injector cleaner. that problem went alway. and try to pump 89 or 91 when you put gas.

Thanks marvin,i'll check what you said.Hopefully i'll put higher gas in and some fuel injector cleaner in and see what happens..
