Yes this is a very important step in a 7M as the Cast Iron used is very hard and even if the original marks are visable the bores will be glazed, a quick rub with a Toilet Brush Hon (flex hone) will do the trick.

ok, now i know! thanks BRo!!:]

well i just got my pistons and rods back....they refinished the rods and even stamped what number cylinder they were so no confusion...:]
Also got me some NPR(Nippon Rings) for about 50$ brand new so those should work fine....Now all i gotta do is get me a hone...my great grandfather had one that had crocus cloth on it just enough to break the glaze...now i gotta go find it.......sheeessshhh but then it will be putbacktogethertime...OHYEAH

Take the block to your machine shop and have them flex hone it, it shouldn't cost too much as there's no setup involved (be much less than buying the hone that you'll never use again)

Ya it's like Ij said.

The flex hone is basically a toilet brush, lol, attached to a drill and they run it through the cylinder.

It won't cost much more than buying the tool and it won't take them but 10 to 15 minutes at best.

IJ, I am pretty sure the factory wants a 400 grit stone for honing. I know it isn't in the book, are you wanting this for a clean up job?

I didn't read the whole thread, it just caught my attention.

At this point in time I could see a few people grabbing thier monitors and screaming NO DONT DO IT. I bet poor IJ bought had a heart attack. I made that mistake once man. Its a costly one.. even in a 1865cc vw :)

That tool is right up there with porting and polishing your own head with your dremel. Not to be arrogant, but I just would'nt touch that to my block.
It has mistake written all over it.

Please be carefull with it BD.
