knock sensor????

what if i ran the supra without a knock sensor? i broke it at the plastic piece with the wire that goes in the metal coupling, can i just super glue it or rtv? a new sensor is worth alot. are all toyota knock sensors interchangeable??? i.e. camry, cressida, ????? please help me????

I don't know for sure, but if you ran it without a knock sensor, it seems to me that it would throw a code 52. You can usually find someone on here that will sell you one, or you can pick one up at your local junkyard maybe. I would just replace it instead of trying to rig it up. Good luck.

What exactly do you mean by retarding the timing? I am getting a code 52 because the little cord was pulled out of the knock sensor plug. The engine is running a little rough, is it partly due to the knock sensor?

The ECU is aggressive in setting timing. It depends on the knock sensor(s) to do that. If it sees the sensor isn't reporting back it automatically retards the timing to protect the engine, sets a code 52, and lights the MIL.

So in getting it reconnected and fixed, it should run alot smoother and the timing wouldn't act like its a little off?

I think they are, I would call the dealer and get part numbers for both.

they are the same, i've used both in my na-t and they both seem to be the same. i do recommend doing a rewire with all new connectors tho.

I have the same problem,my timing is lacking and i'm burning to rich with the outcome of black smoke and a gas smell in my oil.i found a knock sensor on ebay for under 40 bucks.don't you dare go to the dealership:3d_frown:unless you were born with a golden spoon in your mouth:biglaugh:

also since were on this topic if you have a bad ks can that prevent your speedohmeter needle from working?
