Hmm. I've been running knock sensors out of a '95 4-runner (square plug) on my '88 now for 4+ years, no problems.

Assuming you've got the 86.5-91? round style plugs, get them at any Toyota dealer. PN: 82219-89103

If you have a 7mgte, you have two knock sensors; one directly behind the alternator, halfway down the block, and one at the same height farther back, nearly behind the starter.
If you have a 7mge, then you have one, and it's between the two aforementioned locations.

I'm sure squared and round aren't compatible.

In Epc, there are 2 reference : 1 Toyota and 1 Denso. We cannot exhange.

I've just had the same issue 10 days ago.

Voltage checking is a good way to check wiring.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the square and round plug knock sensors are compatible and can be used together? I am swapping a '91 GTE engine into my '92 (originally N/A) chassis and the '91 engine had a broken round plug knock sensor. I have the square plug sensor and harness connector from the '92 GE engine and would rather use those than spending ~$100 on another sensor if I don't need to.

Thanks,

Chris

Maybe someone else can chime in, but how often do these things actually go bad?
I imagine it's the wiring that ends up being the culprit 99 times out of 100.
