So this past weekend I drove through a bit of rain on the way to the golf course, no biggie. After the 4.5 hour round in which not a drop of rain fell, I come back to the Supra and find a big wet spot at the rear of the car, driver side corner. There was a slow drip of water, and I really though nothing of it once I confirmed by taste test that it was water.
Fast forward to last night, and like usual I'm tooling around with the flashlight doing a visual inspection of the Supra. For some reason I decide to shine the light up under the rear driver side fender, and to my surprise I could see through to what has to be a space between the cargo area and the exterior sheet metal. I was able to pull rust rotted pieces from inside the fender.
So now my question is, what am I to do? Keep in mind that I do not plan on driving the car in the winter, and I will now keep her home in the garage on days where rain is in the forecast. With those precautions, will the spreading be minimal? Sort of sucks because I did plan on dumping some cash into a complete engine/trans rebuild this winter. Should I proceed with that, fix the rust, or ditch the project completely?
Thanks.
Ben
