I think this swap is awesome.

For the 5M-GE haters, do any of you remember Russ Matusevichs MA-61?

I recall him winning the drag meet at Vegas one year too

Dont under-estimate the 5M-GE, especially when turbocharged.

PSSSSSSSSSST. Russ M's car had a 3.0 bottom end. It was 6MGTE, NOT a 5M kthnx? Believe it or not there's a difference. I'm not really a "hater", I just don't believe it'll be as easy as the OP thinks it will be that's all. For being boosted, I would make damn sure that 5M could handle it and refresh all the guts. Throwing a turbo on an xxxxxx? mile engine is going to result in heartbreak :icon_razz

here's an article on Russ Ms car... which is FULL of lulz, calling a 5MGE that was punched out from "2.7" liters to 3.0

I think the point the builder is trying to make is that stock for stock, a 5M-GE is way more reliable than a 7M.

And that, folks, is a bona fida fact

When I had my 5mgte it never once failed to start and run for me, even in the dead of Mn winter with 20w50 motor oil, it would crank once and fire right up. And dollar for dollar was one of the fastest cars I have driven to date.

ORLY? And how many 5Ms have you owned to declare this a fact?

M series engine is basically the same all across the board. The 5M and early model 7M blocks are cast VERY similar, they are basically the SAME. The late model 5M crank even uses the SAME bearings as the 7M. The only real difference is the head.

Both the 5M and 7M's head bolts were undertorqued greatly from the factory. Ugh, I hate that you guys are turning me into a 7M supporter, it makes me feel kinda ill inside....

And many holes were put into this block, less than 2 weeks after BHG was repaired.

why do you keep starting shit? since your first post in this thread that's all you've been doing. no one wants to hear your negativity, ,either grow up or go stand in the corner with your 6m

LOL. It's a public forum where I can give my opinion. If the thread starter didn't want to read crititism of any sort, he shouldn't have posted here or anywhere else.

The part that you quoted from me just now, where do you see THAT as negativity towards THIS BUILD? I was merely stating that the 5M isn't this golden egg of an engine compared to the 7M.

Seems like YOU need to grow up, chill out and get a grip on the situation here. I was one of THE biggest 5M supporters back in the day, and I am still one of the people on cs.com, on here, on any forum, that choses to GO AGAINST THE GRAIN (which is the whole theme of this 5M Mk3 idea). I want to help Push, in any way that I can, but I also don't want him or anyone else to have delusions that the 5MGE is completely bulletproof either. It's damn stout but you guys seem to put it on some sort of weird pedestal.

If you see my posts as full of negativity and hate, then put me on ignore. It's not that difficult.

oh and p.s.

it's YOU'RE

Take a step back guys

Look at how many miles a 5M-GE can clock up without being opened up

Compare that to a 7M.

Do the math

I own a 7M, so dont start thinking I have a vested interest in this.

There are way more 7M failures than there are 5M-GE failures.

That is an empirical fact.

This fact does not implicitly imply that 5M-GE is a bulletproof engine, just that it has a greater track record for reliability as it leaves the factory compared to the 7M.

Keep in mind that MKII's aren't usually owned by kids that drive the snot out of them, not to mention the 7M is turbocharged and people neglect the cooling system. Or how about it having to move a fat pig of a car?

you want to help push in anyway huh? thats why you refused to help when we asked if you had or knew where we could get midsump pump. all you could say was, thats the stupidest swap ever, "just buy a 7mge instead",

yes this is a public forum, but it doesn't mean you can use it as your playground to trash other peoples builds. trying to convince them their setup is a waste of time and yours is the only good way..

it's not bad when someone says one little thing as a joke, but when people like you troll the forums and dedicate your life to stuff like this. thats pathetic.

i might not like the 7m. but i don't go around to other peoples threads saying it's the devil, and telling them what they should do instead.. i'm actually here to help others, not pretend to care.

Why? Because she's trying to save him a ton of money/time/heartache?

Just because it can be done, doesn't make it a good idea.
