Whatever you like. You can always clear it later. Personally, I'm a fan of flat black or a matte black, so long as it isn't a sloppy/blotchy job.

It looks good so far.

I don't think I would do the whole thing flat. It's kind of cool (I have one car like that) but it gets old after a bit I think. If I were you I would try the hood and headlights flat and do the rest gloss, then if you don't like it gloss them later. Just my opinion.

Head to Wal-Mart and get some prep-all and some tack rags. Wipe your parts down with the prep-all before you spray. That will get rid of any grease, silicone, and other contaminants that would cause fisheyes. Once that dries, wipe it with the tack rag to get rid of any remaining dust and lint. Then spray. Your paint will thank you.

Also, this is a really helpful guide if you run into finish problems:

rustoleum??? like the spray can kind??? i painted my wifes camry like that lol. they make a color called hotrod black its flat but looks like the old dodge and ford color from back in the day..
tack rags are a life saver.
you can get a good paint job from that kind of gun so give it a go and see how it turns out.

Satin finish FTW!:biglaugh:

When I first did my hood vent, I didn't want to do the "flat" w/ those scratchy/scuff marks, so I used the satin finish Rustoleum until I could get it painted. It still has a kind-of flat black look w/o that dingey/dirty look. Had a nice smooth finish. I have been contemplating doing the whole car like this. I like the supra in a darker color, but everytime I get close to be able to affording a paint job, some other financial obsticale seem to appear.

My supra is hyper gloss and i think it is a bit much, and i always drool at every flat or matte black car i ever see!!!

Gloss is way too hard to take care of also!!!!
My finger prints show up every time i touch the paint!

... are you going to take off the mouldings, handles, etc and pain in all the hidden spots? Or at least take off the doors?

I dont know about the mouldings but with the doors jams and such they will be the last things i will do after the hood/bumpers/headlight covers.

im very suprised how this has came out but i have some few question if anyone has done this and/or have experince with Rustoleum please chime in.

First, i doubt you can see this but you can tell in person i painted the front half of the car, waited a day, then the back half. I just mix the gloss back with mineral spirts and shot it with my HVLP gun. Now the back half looks alittle more glossy than the front part (really the doors look kinda dull) I dont know why this is only thing i can think of is the paint/mineral spirts ratio???
Also im about to do the bumpers last but this has just came to me. If i paint these bumpers the fact that they are plastic, will the paint "flex" with the bumpers or just chip off if like a rock hits it going down the highway???

Think anyone can gimme some input on this?

Wow. Nice results for what it is! As far as the difference in the look of the previous paint, I believe it would be in the mineral spirits-to-paint ratio. Did you measure each (paint/mineral spirits)? Your mixture is probably off. Could be the moisture in the air due to the front that moved through the past couple of days. I wish I knew more about it to give you an answer.

Are you going to wetsand and buff it with buffing compound? I believe it will look alot better after you do that. Remember to also remember that you need to take your time when doing this step, because this will ultimately affect how well your paint looks.
