Does anyone else think that 3000 for stock rebuild is waaayyyy to much .... or am i the one that is off?? From what i remember ........

MHG -$200
Gasket Kit $200
Piston Rings 70
Oil Pump $150-200
Rod Bearings- $30-50
Main Bearings $40-60
Arp head bolts $100
Valves 3 angle w new stems $300
Have block resurfaced $60
Head Resurfaced $60

And to be on the safe side ..... 1500 bucks

If you install new rings without honing the cylinders you are asking for trouble.
Same thing goes with installing new rod bearings without resizing the rods.
ARP rod bolts are a good idea to install before you resize the rods.
New bearings without at least polishing the crank is something you should probably not do.
The pistons will need to be cleaned and checked, as they will probably have carbon buildup on them.
A $300 head rebuild may not include the valve adjustment afterwards.

Those things come standard to me i should have stated that :nono: mybad ..... thats why i feel $1500 is good bet but not $3000 add $150 or so to polish the crank but it could be more or less depending on the person who is doing it and around $75 to hone the block

I wish i could have done everything myself but i don't have the tools, time, or space to disassemble the block myself. You got me interested in my grand total now... Ill let you know.

When dealing with anything you should alway check things out yourself first shop around to get an idea of what things cost and how/why they function. Sometimes well most of the times its almost cheaper to buy a part yourself vs having the mechanic buy it ..... since most are trying to make a profit off of parts and labor

Yes he does make a profit on his parts. But I didn't want aftermarket so i bought my own toyota parts and brought them to him. Little did I realize he now won't warranty the motor because there not his parts because he did not make money on them. He should have told me that before I didn't know he even cared.

I got quotes from other places. another place was $3200cdn full motor rebuild. Thats using all toyota parts but stock HG and head bolts. I wouldn't have had to buy the parts that way but it would have been a little much after buying the mhg and arps. They were all in the same ball park

CDN? Whats the conversion rate to dollars? Well with forged internals and a rate of $75 h/r or whatever they charge for the labor i can see that price 1500 for rebuild stuff + 1200forged stuff + 700 labor

3,200.00 CAD = 2,813.42 USD

Before I speculate too much ill get a total like I said hopefully tonight and compare. $1500 + $700us labour is getting more realistic. But there is always that extra stuff that puts it over the edge. I mean I needed a timing belt tensioner or watever. It was $150cdn!!!!! just for that. with a 15% discount.

ill tell you what, sicne my currrent car which came with the knock, i bought a longblock fro ma guy i knew, it has a JDm head, no EGR yadda yadda yadda, no sludge deposits, cylinder walls looks like thevye JUST been honed (im still gettign it rehoned and new rings, it came with a MHG on it, bottom end is probably solid as well. But i am still rebuilding it. Why you ask? Because the car sat through 50,000 km's already so why not refreshen it so it lasts a lifetime? And plus all the parts i got were off members and misc peopel and i think my rebuild cost with everythign i need minus rod bearings is a little over 400 usd. Hone + resurface block(if i need it, maybe just a lap) and resurfaced head will put me in the cost of a JDM 7mgte shipped otmy door. and this will have allbrand new hoses, gaskets and everythign needed to make my car relaibel as hell. and considerign i onyl drive about 10 kms a day, + winter store it, this motor is gonna last a loong, loong time.

i wish i could go back in time. I bought a JDM motor and ran on it for a lil over a year and had not 1 problem with the motor. I got bored with it drove it to the back and pulled it out. I was going to rebuild it. but i decided to rebuild the usdm original motor. If i would have done that I'd still be driving my supra right now. O well we live we learn. Only thing different was my jdm 7mgte didnt have oil squirters. No big deal at all. agian it was a great JDM motor

Mine had a spun bearing when I bought it. So far I've spent (just on engine):
(all Canadian $$):
850 - all machining (hottanking, boring, honing, rods resized, etc)
650 - gasket kit, exhaust helicoil kit, Titan mhg, Main & rod Arp's, oil pump
150 - head Arp's
965 - forged Ross pistons
+ lotsa hours cleaning, polishing and porting, etc.
When you buy a Supra, be prepared to spend big if you want it right!
