James' 89 Supra Turbo

The beech performance shifter went houdini on me, I can't find it. In the meantime, I was able to get a stock shifter from the same 89 that donated its alternator. Also installed a new rubber boot around the base of the shifter.

New boot isn't as snazzy as an OEM one, but it looks pretty good. Still looking for the right shift knob... I'd love the stock shifter knob in new condition.

Later on decided to try out a 4Runner 5 speed knob. It looks better than the worn out Supra knob for now.

Installed an Alpine CDA-9884 radio. I have the same radio in pretty much every car I own, I love it.

And got a sweet 18" spare wheel. It should be plenty to fit over the big brembo brake upgrade, which will be installed soon.

James, any more info on the rubber boot for the shifter?... I was told they are NLA.

Also the stock shift knob you will likely be able to get from Japan (I did prob 12 months ago). The PN for the leather black MA70 one is 33504-24070-C0

It's actually not for a Supra, it's for a 4WD 4Runner W56 trans. It looks roughly the same and it fit quite nicely. Toyota PN 33525-22050.

Thanks for the tip! I ordered one from Japan like you mentioned. I've been trying to wait until receiving it to post, but it's been 3 weeks since I placed the order and I'm getting antsy. It should be here tomorrow as it just left a 5 day vacation at US Customs.

I've got three different tail light failure boxes. All 3 seem to be working great with all lamps, except the CHMSL 3rd brake lamp. I may have to do some wire tracing because the 3rd brake lamp isn't working. Any ideas?

This lovely piece came in today. There was a small scratch which was disappointing, but it took so long to get it, I'm over the damage.

Shift knob, OEM. Thank you for the tip on the part number, Hybrid. It looks great!

Awesome stuff James, yep they are great aren't they :). Mine is still in plastic as have a near new second hand one I will "use".

With that much attention to detail, I can only imagine how many spare parts you must have... very nice.

Hey jame what happened to the mk4

Hey Edgar, I love the MKIV. I've been driving it with the stock twin turbos working in parallel, true twin conversion. The trans seems like a pretty tough version of the A340. It takes off surprisingly well for being essentially stock.

This car is in great running shape, it could be driven every day. I drive it to school and work on occasion. Once the MKIII is on the road, the MKIV is next on the list for a paint job and manual swap. It would be my 4th manual swap, since my other 3 Toyotas were originally automatics.

Automatic is depressing to drive. Always always always selecting my own gears, I hate the shift points! At this point, I'm considering going R154 until I can afford a V160. Every V160 I've seen in recent ads have gone for more than I have into this entire project. I don't have that kind of money to spend on a transmission. R154 > Auto x10000000000.

baller I did a little digging for that part number and holy cow 126 was the lowest I could find but damn it looks like it was worth it.

That's a bit more than what I paid. Still, it's nice enough to make you wonder how this car looked brand new. It's a nice piece.

Luck would have it that I've found a brand new 3.0 turbo logo. USPS damn near lost it, the package was destroyed and repackaged, arrived a week late, somehow the logo made it unscathed.

Very very nice as usual James. When did you happen to source the "3.0 Turbo" front badge?

I have a second hand one which is in 90% condition, but wouldn't mind a spare. Been told countless times via Japan they are NLA though.
