is the is300 2jz the same as the sc300 and supra na 2jz?

cause if going na-t is that easy, i might just go that route with an is.

The 2jzge is the same across all XX-300 series lexus vehicles as well as the n/a Supra. The only differences will be minor, such as valve cover heights and the mid/rear sump oil pan. Beyond that, it's the same block, head, crank, pistons, rods, etc.... IE: I had a gs300 motor and sc300 motor. Slightly different valve covers, different sumps. The sumps are different due to the top/lower oil pans, baffle, and pick-up tube. BUT the pick-up tube bolts to the block in the same location on both the mid/rear sump oil pans, just a different shaped tube. ONLY THE REAR-SUMP WILL FIT A MKIII. Keep in mind, there IS a difference between the Pre-VVTi and VVTi motors, it's with the electronics and injectors. The VVTi motors are a PAIN to swap into the mkiii chassis due to the need for the ECU and other accompanying electronics.

I would suggest now, that if you want an IS300 you need to make up your mind on whether to keep the supra or buy an IS300. I couldn't blame you. The only trick is, it's hard to find a manual IS300, BUT you can always swap in the R154 behind that 2jzge and have a capable 5-spd. transmission. Keep checking out the threads here and also check out clubna-t.com and clublexus.com.

You will find valuable information as well as parts on these three sites. One may fill in gaps that another leaves. And of course, if you can't find the information.. POST THE QUESTION! lol :biglaugh:

Change the gasket, that way once you realize what that power level feels like on the 2jz, you can go higher. TRUST ME. You'll want the comfort. Do it once, do it right. Have the blocked cleaned out, decked, clean the head, have it machined, new bearings, ARP head studs, a 2.0mm or so (depends on clearances and how much is machined) MHG, all new engine gaskets, and you have yourself a beautiful thing. And it doesn't cost too much either. I paid $600 total in machining/cleaning costs, and around $400 for the engine gasket set, MHG, and ARP head studs. All in all, great for a motor that will do 500 easy. With supporting mods of course.

Come on, let's be realistic about the 2j swap. Don't steer the poor young man into a snowball of money project that he doesn't want.

2jzge $400
Machine/cleaning cost as you quoted $600. That's on the low end.
Gasket set. $400
MHG to drop compression. $210
ARP studs $190
SSAC n/a to turbo conversion kit $750
Knock off WG $80
Half decent MP T70 turbo $600
Oil feed and return lines $190
Air filter $15
Fuel injectors $550
Fuel pump dual walbros $200
Fuel pump dual hanger $300
AFPR & fittings $250
Bell housing to mate to R154 what?.... $300 used?
Clutch kit $450
1jz/2jz motor mounts $196

Grand total of $5681. That's not including shipping on these parts. Even if you were to take 35% off this price for used parts it would still come out to $3692.
All of the above is on the cheap end of parts. And the rest would nickel and dime him to death. Belts and hoses. Timing belt. Spark plugs. Break in oil and filter. Fuel filter. Timing belt tensioner. Misc nut and bolts. Thermostat. Oh, and you want to convert the distributor to COP later on. And the list goes on. All of that cost money. And then the pain in the ass wiring that has to be done to use your existing 7m loom to connect to the 2j electronics.
Don't mislead him into thinking this swap is cheap and easy. There's lots that goes along with this swap.

Or you can take your 7m and rebuild it for around $1000. But you mentioned you don't want a 7m anymore. SBC is always an option. Or you can part it out and cut your losses. Either way I wish you luck.

Seriously, anything non-7M is going to kill your wallet and time exponentially compared to dropping in a stock rebuilt 7M with MHG and ARP head studs which will do 400rwhp fine with supporting fuel.

well thanks for all the advice guys but ive sorta run out of options.

the gracious people letting me use their shop for free are moving in a month so i will no longer have the space.

and mike at ss performance hasnt returned phone calls or emails so i dont think he is interested in doing the swap.

and i cant really risk pulling this thing apart and not having time to put it back together before the end of february.

Rent one of those U-stor places big enough to fit the car and engine on a stand and have someone trailer your car there. Poof, you have a place to work after you add lights and a heater. Or do you lack tools?

If I lived closer, I'd do it for you for cheap since it wouldn't take too long, depending how much $$ you had to throw at parts early on. You're around 4-6 hours away.

Good luck man, if you have to sell her then do what is necessary. BUT, keep in mind that all of us go through rough times and think about selling her. I know I did. And now that she runs I am so glad I did not get rid of her, despite all of the gremlins.

you just want one less young noob asking the same questions over and over on your forum haha

LOL it's not my forum ;)

Nah seriously these cars can be a bank/heart breaker and you sound like it's going to be a big ask to complete it given the circumstances.
