Heres the scenerio, my buddy calls and says he wants to go to the track to beat up on the ol supra lol.

The Challenger Has a 94 3000gt sl.
His mods are. Intake, Custom borla catback, fidanza flywheel, and i believe a clutchmasters clutch.

My mods are intake, exaust(no muffler), and light weight driveshaft.

We havent decided on a day exactly its between this friday or sunday @ clay city (for you locals)

This will be both our first times at the track. We both have similar mods and were both n/a. This will be front wheel vs. rear wheel drive. I really have my hands full with this one. Ive rode in his car and it feels strong, so my best bet is to get him on the line and hope i can hold him back.

If anyone has any pointers im open for all suggestions, and secondly everyone cross your fingers and hope i dont break anything.

3000gt sl's are crap. its the single cam version. making roughly 160hp not sure if its to the fly or to the ground. either way you'll win.. we think supras are tanks well these things are HEAVY and unless you got the power to back it its weak. even with its mods its nothing.

when I first got my 7m running I raced a SL.. I had my timing set wrong (bad tps) and it was slow as piss.. ran a best of 16.3 at 86 or something.. and I beat the SL.. bone stock turbo car with -10* timing (10* After TDC), haha..

Thanks guys for the confidence. I figured i would race with out my spare and such too loose a few lbs. Also i was under the impression that the sl, tho still heavy, is still lighter than our cars. Also if i wanted to go mod for mod with him my clutch and flywheel is in the basement ;)

good luck man!

best thing i can tell you is between now and then go work on your launch. the 60' is critical. even if by some stretch his car is faster, you can outdrive him and win.

Holy cow. How close minded can one be?

First off, the Mitsubishi 3000GT SL's were 6G72 [DOHC 3.0 Litre V6].

Second off, have you personally ridden in a 3000GT before?
In comparison to a naturally aspirated A70, they aren't exactly slow.

As for weight, curb weight for curb weight, given an A70 and a Z15A both are well equipped, they aren't far off from each other at all.

Horsepower: A standard 3000GT SL was 225bhp and 205lb/ft's.
Aside from torque, wasn't far off from a 7M-GE.

Get your facts straight next time, please.

As for said topic: It totally depends on how good of shape both cars are in.
I previously owned a '95 SL for the longest time....until I eventually went with a single turbo conversion. With the full dual exhaust, air filter, clutch, flywheel and a few other small things, it would sure as hell get up and go for as heavy as it was, then again it was in great shape.

Given you get off the line quick (Heavy FWD's like to spin off the line ;)), you should be able to hold him off as long as everything goes smoothly. :)

Good luck to you. :icon_razz

Well you'll have your oil line kit on friday so maybe you should put on the turbo. :)

That would be plain mean ;), plus i already told him he could have a stab cause once i go boosted i'd break his heart :naughty: His responce was nitrous blah blah blah

His car is in great condition, very well kept so thats what i mean by it feels strong. Like you have said, it does like to spin hard from a launch when ive rode with him.

Im hoping for a good launch and my good tq. to get me out front real quick but my optimal shift is about 5500 for me so if all is well my supra wont fell me if i go by the drag thread ;)

No fuckin shit ;). I'm rocking the 6g72 in my 3g and it's not a slouch for an NA (just intake, catback, and shifter). I'm sure my car's lighter than a 3000GT (but I'm not sure). If he can launch his car, you're in trouble. Practice, practice, practice.

I'm terrible. ;)

I owned a '95 3000GT and then I also owned an '02 3G...

What the eff was wrong with me? :nono:

But the 3G was uber reliable. I miss it sometimes.........for daily driving. :biglaugh:
