Sounds like there could be a tiny bit of surge there as if the valve isn't opening fast enough but then again it could just be the sound the valve makes. You will know compressor sure when you hear it, it sounds like the three stooges wooot woooot woooot.

Its pretty dam loud tho.
I'm talking about when he backs off the gas - like the bov is taking too long to open properly....

It could be compressor surge "just" before the BOV opens?

those are the hks replicas right?

I seem to remember hearing alot of bad things about them. But that's just me....if you suspect compressor surge...your bov isn't doing its job.

You may want to check all the lines to the BOV and make sure its on its own vacuum source. Also check to make sure you have no boost/vacuum leaks as that will cause problems with the bov opening...especially at lower boost(part throttle) levels. i use a turbo xs one and it would surge bad on stock boost...but wouldn't surge after a full third gear pull at 16 psi. found a vacuum leak at the vsv thingers and all my surge issue disappeared.

some food for thought.

Yeah it's just like an HKS one. Internally VERY similar, to the extend I cant fault it.

I've checked all the vacuum lines and tried a few different sources as well. I have no vacuum leaks. On idle the valve sometimes gets sucked open (its fine as I'm running a stand alone with map so doesnt stall). So I have good vacuum. Its very confusing.

Sorry I can't offer an educated guess on the motor.

Maybe you should try another BOV to rule that one out. I guessing the problem lies in the BOV itself, not the turbo.

Hehe - cheers. I had washed if but really poorly for the dyno. I really need to give it a decent polish to bring out the metallics etc

Ditto to what HR said. HKS replicas ftl. A friend of mine had one on his civic and it had similar probs and almost killed his turbo. Got the real deal and surge never happend again.

tough to say...

the SSQV sounds a hell of a lot like that anyway.

Try removing the insert to get rid of the high pitched sound to the BOV and see if the sound changes, if it does it's at least venting...

OK I removed the insert - but the sound still remains. It's deffinatly a squeak coming from the turbo, not the BOV - must be time for a new bov - bugger....

i had a bit with a 70mm turbo and a blitz bov so i added a second now its just the sound of air http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ss9WNRWWNE

if i pull the vac off either one it surges a bit

Yeah I was thinking about getting a 2nd one and putting it straight after the turbo, i.e. before the intercooler. I was even thinking a Bosch one, like the upgrade for the stock 7M one....
thoughts on this?
