Well first of all, Turbo a engines run on a map ecu. The AFM is eliminated which is visible in that engine. The throttle cable is located in a different location also. Also, the charcoal canister is different.

You could probably check by asking for the part number on the HKS chip for the FCON.

There is a pressure sensor near the strut tower that I do not recognize.

The seller could be full of it though.

I fail to see an AFM...

The throttle cable is located differently...

I was pretty sure all JDM charcoal canisters were infact different...

i doubt it because, the ecu has 92 written on it, the car has abs, the car is red,

i was pretty sure with the turbo a, that since it was a map based ecu, that you didn't need to use the fcd,

either way,

i was under the impression that turbo a's had larger tb's a 3000 pipe that had no 3000 on it, larger ofcourse..

also came with no abs, no air bags, no cruise, no ac maybe even..

isn't the turbo A car even rhd..,

Looks like a Turbo A motor to me. A very messy Turbo A.

Its not in the original car, since turbo A's only came in black 88's. Probally swapped just the motor in and got the HKS electronics to run it. The Turbo A 3000 pipe is also missing.

I don't see an AFM. But I really doubt that's the original Turbo A turbocharger, so hell - as far as I'm concerned, it's not a vintage Turbo A, that would be worth some $$. This is just a modded 7MGTE

Check the other thread.. this whole thread is about the motor itself being a Turbo-A motor. We know the car is not considering on S/F he said it was a Turbo A in a USDM chassi. He wasn't trying to sell the entire car, nor was he trying to claim the chassi was JDM/Turbo A.

And yes, FCD's were commonly used on map setups because the Turbo A ECU's did have fuel cut as well. I'm sure its a similar system to what the 2jz and 1jz MAP ECU's run with "boost cut". If the ECU senses too much pressure at a certain temperature/rpm it will do something about it.

As for the motor itself, we're not going to majically figure out the key to wether or not this a Turbo A motor. For all we know it could be a genuine Turbo A ECU with a few piggybacks on an average 7mgte (with minor alterations) and a JDM charcoal canister. We all know the throttle body is different.. that would be a big hint if it were genuine motor itself... but them again we we're given that information so we dont know.

I think we should just leave the investigation to jeff lange ;)

Edit: I see there is a different plug on the rear side of the intake manifold indicating an ITA sensor, and the vacum lines are on the TB are different from normal JDM TB's. It looks like it is a Turbo A, but we'd have to tear it down and check the valve springs and such to be certain.
