It will bit you in the ass...When I did my 1JZ timing belt one of the "tits" were bent and I didn't notice. It caught the timing belt and came off the back side of the timing gear. It took me days to figure out why it would get spark so inconsistently, the crank trigger gear would catch now and then and spin some...now I'm trying to figure out why it breaks up so bad when it starts to boost..

I bent one or two, maybe 2 degrees at most. I straightened them, but I'm confident that it/they will still trigger the crank sensor. I'm not worried about it at all.

Hopefully it's still coming together smoothly Mark.

It is. I'm getting ready to order the A/N fittings for the fuel rail. I need to install the AC pump, starter, oil pan and the wiring harness. It will be ready to drop in and finish it.....

Gear new is about $70 dollars not $10. After you get done taking it off, have some one spot weld the teeth to the gear on the back side. I've had the teeth come apart from the gear and it makes all kinds of funny timing mistakes.

were we talking about the gear or the sensor thing on the back of it?

both, it's an assembly

but two seperate part #'s the gear itself is around 65$ but you cant just bend one of those teeth.. the little metal cps piece that comes off of it is not and it can be bent easy and bent easily back.. i bought a new one just incase i had funky timing problems but i didnt and never used it.. still sitting in my garage.

by the way i WD40'd the thing and pushed it in/out and came loose. i used a pulley puller the other times and never had a problem.

Umm... the sensor ring on the timing gear cannot be had by itself, it only comes with the timing gear, they're not separate.

Jeff

wonder how i got mine then. we are talking about the gear that goes on the crank and connects to the timing belt right.. the sensor thing on the back that can come off easily..
