is it necessary to run a thermostat in-line with an oil cooler setup?

Ughh... I was considering running the Permacool Thermostat but just decided to bite the bullet and shell out the cash for the Mocal unit.. Hopefully the extra money will give me some peace of mind. Just gotta figure out my routing and order some fittings :D

Is this the right/okay hose to use with these fittings for this application?

Yes that's the hose you want to use with the fittings.. Twist tite hose, Twist tite fittings.

Thanks for the answer. One more question though. Since the whole previous conversation confused the hell out of me should i use clamps with that hose/fitting combo or not?

Apparently it is still a good idea to use clamps with that setup. I'll be finding some spring clamps to fit the -10 hose.

I was lucky and got my complete setup here used for $300. Had the cooler, Thermostat, remote filter adapter, hose with a complete pushlock setup. I would not think of skipping anything that helps with the oiling. At the moment I am now REALLY considering getting an accusump setup. I am worried about my startups with the extra lines as well as first startup. This info on the pushlock fittings is assuring.

From what I have read from Aeroquip's site, not only is using clamps on push-lok fittings a waste of money, it can potentially cause the fittings to leak; don't use them.

Can't use that style of clamp on a pushlock fitting, the barb will slice into the hose causing a spectacular failure.

Correct size hose and fittings and the correct Oil/Fuel resistant hose is needed to do the job correctly, never had one fail in 30 years of using pushlock after the first failure from using the wrong hose.

I run pushlock on the Engine Oil, Trans Oil and fuel here.

I've used Summit twist-tight hose/fittings and never had a problem with it...I did use the 3 barb AN type fitting vs the 2 barb NPT.

The Aeroquip fitting you linked to looks like a std brass barb...it's not push-lock...there is a difference.

Aeroquip makes good stuff - you won't go wrong with their version of the push-lock hose.
