I'm sorry that's just fucking horrendous and is THE reason why there are laws governing car modification....

Laws regarding road-going vehicles, at least..

Don't take me the wrong way, I'm just curious, but would it still bother you if he just trailered it to road courses/tracks and stuff?

Would any tracks even allow something with welded axle shafts / suspension like that? (if they knew about it?)

To be honest, as long as the axle shafts are balanced, they'll be fine as he did penetration welding.

Now the driveshaft, hubs, ect.... Or how about the rear shocks that are at an extreme angle and aren't going to do jack?

Construction work doesn't get much in the way of torque applied to it....

Were they heat treated?

What filler did he use?

How is the adjacent steel affected by the heat from the "penetration welding"?

Seriously I'm not slamming you Poodles but this is why people SHOULDN'T do this type of work at home....

You're using an example/justification that doesn't apply in any way shape or form to the work being done.

He would have been far better off using a precision fit tube and welding it at each end, but his cocky shit blobby welds are so full of inclusions, air pockets and contamination it would probably still fail.

^^

That says everything that needs to be said about the aforementioned "project".

For example, when we built the race cars, we had all the equipment needed to do the work "in house". (MIG, TIG, All the stainless you could imagine, etc..) We built the motors, we did a lot of the work. However, the welding on those race car chassis & cages? Done by Dave Zientara Racecraft.

Why? Because when it comes to cages, frames and suspension related parts, you better be goddamned sure you know what you are doing.

Kai: ever though it looks like shit, it was rusting away and probably would have been scrapped soon...

Most people wouldn't have touched that much rust...

Seems like there's one or two in every community..... :nono:

Problem is with the V-Dub community is that a vast majority of them seem to be a bit... odd.

There's purposely making your car look shit, I mean, 'Rat'.

Oh, here's this bloke's second attempt:

photo0395sv4.jpg

Then we have ridiculous (and down right dangerous) tyre stretchering, slamming your car to the absolute ground (plus putting stickers in your back window to alert people to this fact, 'no fat chicks' seems to be a favorite), oh, and sticking wheels from another car (badges and all) onto your underpowered shit box

Good effort, your wheels are worth considerably more than your car. Enjoy.

Thanks for the insight Don!!

Even that I could "admire/praise" if it were done well but this mechanical Herpe is the poster child for half assed and dangerous.

Yet another "mechanic" that is a genius in his own lunch box, seeing this I couldn't help but question EVERYTHING he does in his day job.....

Funny how all of his most vocal "supporters" over there seem to be the same type of clueless idiots we have here that jump into threads and say "Great Work" when the poster obviously doesn't have a single clue/idea/skill to his name....

It gives the VW community a bad name, IMO, because there are some BRILLIANTLY done Dubs out there, and that caddy could have done to someone that does NICE work - pick up a copy of Golf Plus, or VW Magazine and you'll see the time & effort that some people put in.

HAI!!!

Ok this is fun, I'm a VW guy so enjoy my response.

The rat look is gay. The scene cars are fucking shite. Stretched tyres SUCK COCK!!

Most of the VW guys are pricks at the moment, I'm happy with trying to make my Golf look as OEM as possibly with a few subtle upgrades.

Go visit ClubGTi and you'll see the bunch of retards we deal with, the friggin' admin of ClubGTi is a complete and utter penis. They don't seem to understand that basic concept of their new hot hatches are dull and uninviting in comparison to other cars.

Of course, alot of the VW Vortex guys are all right, apart from their love of looooow cars. A 30mm drop on a Mk2 Golf is enough and that's just to tidy up the handling.

Don't feel like you're knocking them, I'm one of them and I think they're a bunch of complete and utter dipshits.

People that drive Mk4 Golfs are dicks btw. They aren't even allowed to be called Dubbers. We can't stand the bunch of complete dicks.

Rat look makes me want to throw up a little. My dad owns a 1968 1500cc VW Beetle which he has carefully loved for the last 30 years, when he didn't drive it for 15 years he locked it away in our garage to protect it from rust. He's spent an arm and a leg on getting anything needed done in order to restore it to it's factory standard.

The only intended "alterations" are a radio so he can listen to it and a nice wood trimmed steering wheel. I daren't show him rat look incase he cried, last time we went to a show he spent 2 hours talking to a guy he'd never met about his MINT 1963 Beetle. I like Beetles and all and I wouldn't dare make his car anything other than what he wants even when it becomes mine because I think it looks fine it is. I want another one to put a Porsche engine in but even then, do that right and it's just a sleeper.

To hell with Rat Look. I want to burn them all to the ground. It's only cool if you pull a rusty piece of shit out the forest and make it run.

The joke is it costs x3 to do a rat paint job.....

Again I don't get it but each to their own.
(I'm also the guy that thinks Toyota lost their mind with the 89+ bodywork update)

The rat hot rod look isnt so off, but the VW rat rods are a hole other story.
p1366350_1.jpg

I don't know how the heck it could have gotten started on the VW scene seeing as they have little to nothing in common with the old school model T crowd and so fourth. I'd go as far as to call them the equivalent of ricers from a rat rod standpoint.

Somehow....I like some of them...

Patina and a little surface rust is one thing, needing a tetinus shot is another...

Oh, and if it's NATURALLY that way it's cool, if you made it that way you're a poser... I know quite a few bugs around here that are really like that and were found that way.
