so the story goes.
I used to have a 4th gen 40gig ipod. then i put a 60gig harddrive in it. It was great. Then it got stolen/disappeared. From using my pod every single day to not having one anymore, it sucked.
So I had this extra harddrive, and thought i'd build from there. Well i scrounged up a bunch of pieces from other ipods and finally put one together!
I call it...the iPhrank! (Originally to be called the Frankenstein with a Apple® Twist, hehe)
Check it Out!:biggrinbo

I guess the kid i got the face from wanted a black ipod, so he thought a sharpie was a good idea:slap:
It's bulgy because its a 40gig harddrive in a 20 gig shell + the extra HDD padding i put in.:p
It'll get cleaned up as time goes, and probably mess with it software wise like the last one, but for now I'm just happy to finally have a working pod. woohoo!
just thought i'd share.:icon_bigg

Haha, mine was stolen 2 weeks ago, and I mainly used it in my car, plus Ill have an iPhone in 2 weeks. So I thought, get a hard drive for my head unit since it has USB, well the portable drive I bought it SUPPOSED to run off USB power.. well that only works half the time, long story short, I gotta return this POS tomorrow and try a different one. Once I get it working Illl show it off and make a small write up.

The duct tape is a nice addition to the iPod, they should incorporate the in all new models! :biglaugh:

This may be a dumb iPod noob question, but is there an easy way to rip music from my iPod directly to a PC?

there's legal issues, thats why iTunes can't do it, but you can easily go on download.com or some kind of other equivalent site and type in ipod sync or something equivalent, and there's many programs out there to get that job done.
Only problem is that they usually got some trial crap going on, so hopefully you know the "tricks"

CopyPod or any other equivalent program on the net.

Browse to the music folder on the Ipod. The files are hidden by default. Unhide the files then copy and paste.

i'm not sure if it retains the info (artist, title,) , and it is really kind of a bitch to go through the 3 million folders going through your whole scattered library. its like playing 52 pickup. it sucks. i'd get some software. but if you're gonna PAY for the software, yeah, go through the 52 pickup.

ive done it many times and it saves all the info except the pictures. There will only be about 50 folders max i believe cause thats all i have ever seen through doing this through numerous ipods, so just copy all the files from each ipod folder into one central folder on your PC then have itunes load them all back in from that one folder. Got to be careful though cause if they were bought songs off of someone elses ipod or itunes then you will need their apple user name and password to play those files.

also when ur copying the music the files will have 4 letter names but when put back into itunes all the info comes back so done be alarmed.

iPod noob question too.... I got the majority of my iTune songs that are currently on my iPod on my old computer.. If I plug in my iPod to my new computer with iTunes, will my songs automatically sync and save to my new computer or will I loose all my songs?

it's usually ~50 folders - and you don't have to go through them.

You simply copy all of them at the same time into your folder on the local drive. Then, you open up itunes and drag and drop that folder onto the music library icon. It's all of a few mouse clicks and you're done.

new pc will wipe ipod clean, got to be linked with the last itunes it uploaded the songs from to keep them.

so to retain the songs off the ipod you gonna have to pull them off through the hidden folders to have on the new pc.

You can't sync from you ipod to the computer.

When you plug the ipod into the new computer, it will ask you if you want to sync your itunes music library (meaning the one on the computer) with your ipod. If you do this, you will lose the content on your ipod.

The most straightforward way to move to the new computer would be to use the backup feature of itunes on the old computer - though it isn't the quickest by any means.

Yes you will because it is a new itunes library on that computer and ipods cannot share two library's at a time so don't sync it or else you will loose it all. My suggestion is that if you have all the songs centralized in your old computer then transfer them to your new one via flashdrive then load them into that new itunes. but be aware that might cause you to loose some of the info on those songs.

Or you can do it the way i explained it a couple of posts before. But once you have the library's matching then you can then just plug the ipod into your new computer and then sync. It will erase the songs then add them back on so dont be alarmed. Hoped this helped:icon_razz

you can use the ipod as a flash drive if it has enough room to take your whole library. I use mine as a flash drive.

so i just found a site that sells the 40gig backing plate i need for 7bucks!! i bought that shit right away, so the iPhrank, ladies and gentlemen, will be losing its duct tape shortly. and probably getting a paint job after i was inspired by this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/zapwizard/sets/476089/show/
i'm not good enough to do that, so some nice cleanup/paint should be nice.

what kind of screw is this?
