I don't think I've felt 10psi pull so hard in my life....
MDCmotorsports said:I didn't go with the xylene simply because I have heard it being corrosive.
jdub said:Chemically toluene and xylene are an aromatic circular hydrocarbon chain...almost identical. Xylene is not as evaporative though.
Now, if you were talking about Isopropyl Alcohol, Tertiary Butyl Alcohol, Methanol or Ethanol...all are corrosive. Attacks rubber, magnesium, and aluminum.
BTW...you were running 96.5 Octane
Dziuggy said:nice info. from the reaserch i have done xylene requires adding lubricant (such as MMM or gear oil) now toulene does not as it has lubricating ability. anyone can confirm / deny this
xarewhyayen said:I just went to sherwin williams ( paint store) and asked about toluene. Thought i was messin with drugs when i asked. haha anyway, he told me somewhere around 8 bux a gallon... like 40 for a 5gallon. Not bad i guess
jdub said:I can see it now...I go out and buy a 55 gal drum being my 'ol gearhead self to mix with gas. Next thing I know, the DEA is bustin down my door scaring my wife to death while I'm out the the garage, music blaring, happily turning wrenches
MDCmotorsports said:Yeah the local Menards and Lowes don't carry Toluene any more (also known as Toluol) because of all the missing teeth meth heads.
Any who, my gallon from Sherwin Williams was around $12 and I was carded for it.
Any major chemical mfg can get it in 55 gallon drums though.
Just a some notes that I found:
-Toluene resists self detonation under high pressure (boost)
-toluene has to be 70+f to actually burn completely.
