Ok, car is an original 92 Turbo swapped to a 1JZ. The lights on the instrument work, Speedo works, but the Fuel, oil, water and RPM don't work. Any suggestions?

Ive got everything but water temp, but i just supplemented with aftermarket in a pod. Good luck with it.

How did you get fuel gauge, RPM and oil? From what i understand the Instruments don't work off the ECU, what harness and connections do thry use?

The 1jz has a low oil idiot light, not a gauge. I believe Driftmotion can make your gauge work for a small fee though.
I don't think the fuel gauge has anything to do with the 1jz swap.
My NA tach didn't work with the swap so I can't help you there. I believe your tach can work with the swap, but someone else will have to help ya out.

not sure why the fuel doesn't work as that isn't a part of the swap.. check the sending unit in the fuel tank

I would guess that your harness was wired wrong and thats why your tach and water temp doesn't work

Oil Pressure requires you to put the 7m sending unit on the 1jz engine and a little wiring is involved..

fuel gauge shouldnt have anything to do with the swap. i guess the guy that i got my motor from already put the oil sending unit on my motor, cause i've always had an oil pressure gauge. rpm and water temp should work after you splice the dash harness into the motor harness (they have different shaped plugs, but all the wire colors match)

The MA71 M1 Male connector on the right thee is what you have on the body. The JZA70 connector is what may have come on your engine, most of the time that connector is cut off though.

The M1 is a yellow plug located near the ECU. See it has most of the gauge connections there. I noticed it has the dash ground in that connector, so it may be causing your problems. I would check that ground first.

How did you modify your harness?

I didn't modify it, The adapter came that way. I will take a pic of the modified adapter. I checked the Brown connector is spliced together. I will run it to a ground and see what happens.

Did you extend the harness or leave it factory?
Simply not extending the harness avoids this often.
The small jumper harness is easy to fix and re-pin
the 1JZ haves two oil sensors idiot light is the pressure switch next to the ac compressor screwed into the block

the orange led in the tech is for oil level warning system lets you know when your engine starts to run low on oil.

also helps to use the jza70 tach because it is diffrent from ma70

1- I did not modify the harness, car came as is with the complete swap already done including wiring.

2- I don't have access to a JZA tach, from what i understand the stock 7M tach with no issues.

3- I am really not concerned with the tach as much as i am with the fuel gauge, water temp and oil pressure gauges.

Ok, so i check all the wires on the IG1 plug and none of them show any voltage at all. The only one that has anything is the tach which has .8 Volts. Could anyone tell me where this plug goes next? I traced it through the firewall and it goes into the main harness in the engine compartment. If there is someplace else that it goes, like if there is another plug IN THE ENGINE BAY i could check it there and if has power i can just run them separate through the firewall.

Did it work already, or did it just start doing this out of no where?

It hasn't worked since i got the car. I applied a direct 12V+ to the water temp and it works. I applied Ground to the oil pressure and it worked. So the gauges, and connecting on the original plug side apparently works. The issue seems to be from the 1JZ plug (IG1) to the sensors, plugs, etc...

bingo

ok the sensor is hooked up correct but the power for your sensors is not some one screwed the harness up or blown efi fuses ?
take the harness apart and put it together like it should be.

Also be carefull there is one - two unfused always hot wires part of the ignition starting system if these come apart and short to a ground it will melt and burn up your whole car behind the dash and in the back of the engine bay its the two thickest wires in the harness going to the starter.

Apparently i had a BAD CLUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!! Swapped out the cluster and now it works????? Oh well, another $ 150.00 towards the supra fund. All instruments work though, except the oil pressure which i know i need a plug for.
