Wow...just wow. The movies were always kind of cheesy, but this was just....wow. Good for entertainment value, definitely had some funny parts, but they RUINED Indiana Jones.....

I haven't seen it or read the reviews.

My prediction:
They forgot their fan base and were trying to appeal to a different crowd.
They deviated from the magic formula.
They introduced something new to the series that doesn't work.

Am I on the right track?

*Rant, with some not so important spoilers

Uh kinda not really. Let's just say have you ever seen a movie that pissed you off because it had some hard to believe or just plain ridiculously impossible things happen? I mean generally movies try to make the characters seem human, but this movie.... arg. That and the CGI just plain sucked. They should have had as much old fashion filming stunts as they did in the previous ones, then this wouldn't have turned out to be a fucking crappy ass retarded movie. The golfers in it were also so out of place and just stupid. It's like George Lucas is just throwing another Jar Jar Binx effect at us. What I want to know is what the fuck drug George, and Speilburg were on. George for probably encouraging such stupid scenes, and burg for approving them.

Anyone who had a chance to watch it far before released should have literally stolen the film and burned it to make them re-do and re-think things. I'm a HUGE Indy nut, I feel like I just got stabbed in the fucking eyes.

/end rant.

Well, I really enjoyed it. There were sections that were over the top, like the Tarzan scene, and driving on the tree, but as a whole it was great.

The FX were almost identical to the originals. The cinematography WAS identical.

Saw it last night. I haven't seen the other three movies, or at least that I can remember, and was really looking forward to all the hype that people had built up towards this movie. I must say though that I was enjoying the movie at first but was quickly disappointed with several things that I thought were just ridiculous. Like grimjack said, driving on a god damn tree, going tarzan with a bunch of monkeys that for some reason did not attack that kid but instead tried attacking the "bad guys" in the car. Then theres the god damn alien/spaceship bullshit that just made me want a refund.

I bet George Lucas and Steve Spielberg are sitting at thier desks smoking big ass cuban cigars,counting wads of bills from one hand to another saying,"Those stupid fuckers! Hah!!"
Wait 5 years and he'll figure out a way to tie it into Star Wars..

My take...

As for stunts;
The refrigerator scene was bullshit.
The tree was bullshit.
The tarzan scene was bullshit.
Falling off of 3 successive waterfalls in that Kübelwagen floating thing was bullshit.

Everything else that comes to mind now was good...

Even though the alien shit was...out there...you gotta remember the first three movies. They had some pretty out-there shit that you have to "believe" in order for the movie to work;

The ark? Heh...yeah.
The Christ Cup healing the wounds? Ex-nazi dustman? Yep...
This stuff is all on-par with the remake. The aliens were legit in my book..

The stunts were over the top. I can believe in certain things at LEAST for the duration of a movie. BUT my nature also says you DROWN in waterfalls like that. It also says you don't balance cars on trees perfectly and drive safely off; and nuclear blasts would probably throw apart a lead-lined fridge...or at least make soup of whoever is inside when the thing is thrown two miles from its original location...

BUT if you ignore the seemingly impossible stunts - it was a great movie that I enjoyed.

It did mess up the feel of Indy a bit, but as the fourth damn movie (NOT counting the young Indy series) I think they did well.. They didn't totally ruin it trying to appeal to they fantasy some younger kids like, and they kept enough and referred back enough to, IMO...keep older people who know Indy, happy.
