I come from a land down under
I'm not contradicting you for the fun of it.

My information is based on a 100 or so personal builds of BiMetal motors over the years and my own experience NOT something I read on the net.

Again if you don't know for sure or have personal experience with a technical subject DON'T advise people.

I know you mean well but it's not helping.

It's not that anyone's trying to attack you. There is good reason for retorquing.... it's called compression and stretching.

After their first few heat cycles at a certain operating temp head bolts can and do stretch. It only a couple thousandths for you to loose upward of 10ft lbs of force.

Headgaskets, even steel or solid copper ones, compress with the first several heat cycles... guess what, so do heads.

MOST manufacturers of heads, head gaskets and fasteners specify a retorque as a *requirement* (they don't even list it as optional.... unless you don't care about a warranty) for a reason. Hell the new heads my boss bought for his Camaro specify that unless the headbolts are retorqued 3 times each after X hours of operation the warranty is void. Part of the reason for this is annealing of the metal if compression isn't maintained.

I don't care how much LUCK some backyard mechanic has had with his "builds".... luck isn't something you recommend that people rely upon... not everyone's going to get lucky.

I don't think either one presents more difficulty... the turbo's got a couple more components to move and the GE's just got a few more bolts on the intake. Anyway about it I don't think it's anything I'd call difficult on either engine.

It's all good man. I think it's equally important that people understand why they're doing something. :D

And I know you weren't trying to be rude. ;)

Sounds like they have seated alright.

I don't know about this re-torque crap.
Do it right.
Do it once.

Retorquing is a pain.
It does take some time to re-torque a head, but it takes a lot more time, effort, and expense to rebuild it again. Just a little insurance and just my 2 cents.

Well like I was saying. I have always planned on the retorque.
But it was a logistical argument they were making.
I wasn't trying to mis-lead anyone.
I am sorry if that happened.

I'm sending my ecu off tomorrow.
Nope no audi yet. I do dig the s4 model.

I also always run more than 5 quarts of 10w40 in my supra.
