so I was putzin around looking for ARP head studs and I came across this web site horsepowerparts.com and they are listing SCE Titian self sealing copper head gaskets in 6 different thicknesses. I was like BOOYACKASHAUN! So I called SCE to verify and the guy said they weren't making the SCE Titan But they were making the ICS Titan and it would only take 10 days to make one and ship!! HELLSS YEAH!! right? WRONG! called back to ask what the difference was between ICS and SCE and a different guy said nope, no gasket, bores too close, maybe one day though, then I was like ahh poo. What a kick in the melons.

There is another thread somewhere about these head gaskets. Someone in our little community here was working fairly close with the guys at SCE to try and get these HG's on the market and it just isn't going to happen any time soon. So it really doesn't matter what the differences are because SCE isn't making either the ICS or the SCE Titan copper head gaskets for the 7MGTE. But from what I understand the SCE needs no copper spray sealant or machine work (surface ra 80 or better and no O rings required) The ICS requires copper spray type sealant but does not require machine work either. Before to run a copper HG you needed have either your head or block machined to accept O rings, not with either of these copper HG's.

ack ack ack!!

no no no!!

machine work is to get the head flat so it can seal. With a warpd head you could torque it down to 200 lbs-ft and still not seal correctly!!

Some one is always trying ways to cut corners on these cars. Do it right, or sell the car to someone that will. :3d_frown:

I agree with you 100%

The 7M block warps also. I had Video of a block that was running for 1000 miles and taken out, rebuilt and resurface and the deck was low and high on some spots.

I'm not trying to cut corners. I was pointing out the specific "machine work" you needed for the copper HG's over the obvious machining like decking the block, etc. You are some know it all condescending guys. Justice racing motors is going to do the "machine work" (you might have heard of him, he builds MSP's motors, ya Know the six second supra guys) but unlike some people I don't crap hundred dollar bills so its going to be a while till I get my SPARE motor "machined". Until then I would like to drive effin thing so I was going to try the self sealing copper HG, but then found out it isn't made (the point of the thread). And yes, i am going to check the head and block for straightness with feeler gauges and a straight edge. My point was that these SCE head gaskets don't require EXTRA machining for O-rings. By the way machine work is anything that requires milling, honing or boring, not just to get the head and/block flat and strait. By the way I'm going to put a Fel-Pro HG with ARP studs. I'm running 14psi. I know some people on this forum don't know if their assholes are bored or punched, but I happen to build 18 speed transmissions for Volvo/Mack, have ran a vertical mill AND a lathe, and worked in a garage (MIDAS) for 10 years. I'm not an expert by any means, but I consider myself "worthy" enough to own this car, in fact its cost me more than one girlfriend because too much time was spent on it. So soapra, someone might get this car when I'm dead, like my children.

I should have said no machine work is needed if the head and block are checked and are flat with a surface ra of 80 or better. I just assumed that was already known. You guys do know everything don't you?

Pretty much. If both are flat, use a composite HG with copper sealant spray, or Permatex brake quiet, something like that, and it should be fine if you stay below the 14 psi you have right now.

We do especially us old guys. Been at it for quite some time.

Saracasm or intentions don't communicate very well over this. You need to be clear about what you really mean and specific also. Because incomplete information will get called on.

When you post .. Needs no machine work. That is pretty damn broad statement that basically means, yank old head, put new ISC gasket, install head, bolt on. Done. Just the thought sends shivers down my spine!

Welcome to SupraMania :)

Hey figgie sorry for jumpin you guys stuff, had a rough day trying to fix every ex boyfriends half ass fixes on my best friends sisters ESCORT:icon_evil . Took all day sun. Not exactly what I wanted to do. The "do it right or sell it" kinda chapped my ass. The machine work I meant, I put in parenthesise, the ra and O-ring stuff, it was unclear. I know a lot of people do stuff half way. I had just spent a full day fixing stuff like that for free because the girl thinks the only thing you do to a car is put gas in it(two outer tie rods, clean and adjust rear brakes, new rotors with old pads(I know) replacing dash bulbs, buffing headlights, oil change that Heman did previously yada yada yada). I actually ended up putting money in the POS because she was trying to cut corners. Just bad timing that day. My apologies again.
