Okay everyone, I'm looking for opinions from people who care about cars, namely Supras...

I'm currently studying abroad in Germany, and while I'm here, my parents are moving to California, so I'm going to be coming back to Minnesota and living on my own. They are also (so very kindly) leaving me their 1996 Honda Accord (with 170,000 miles on it) for me when I get back. This leaves me with a dilemma.

When school starts, I'll have two cars, and no place to store both of them, as the only places I'll be able to live are either a smallish apartment or on Campus if I live in the dorms, and as a result, only one parking spot.

So I'll make this a poll, what should I do in my situation?
1. Sell the Supra, and use the Honda as a gas-saving, practical reliable DD.

2. Sell the Honda, and live with the bad gas mileage, bad winter traction, and my Supra being covered with salt (aka, get rust) in the winter.

3. Pay to get a mini storage where I can store the car I'm not using (Supra for summer, Honda for winter).

Before you just say 3, this is going to be a LOT more money for a college student such as myself. I will only be able to work 15 or so hours a week, and have to pay for school, and living. Which means lots of loans as it is, and paying for storage means even more.

One last thing, the car is a 1990, originally N/A, but has a freshly rebuilt 7M-GTE, and a little rust.

+1 for storage. Working an extra 2-3 hours a month should pay for storage. If that is not enough split the storage with a "roomie". In college/dorms somebody always needs someplace to store extra crap.

Besides you will hate yourself later if you sell it.

as much as i love cars, id sell the supra.

if its got a bit of rust on it anyhow, and its just a regular 7M in it, unless it has some special meaning to you, id sell it. being poor sucks. what good is a nice sports car if you have no money to put gas in it, and no where to go becuase you cant afford to go do anything fun?

its just a car, you can get another supra when finances are a little better.

I suppose I should add one more factor into the equation. The engine on the Supra has JUST been rebuilt (spent $3k on it). So it has brand new oil pump, MHG, pistons, clutch, Radiator, etc. So it has 0 miles on the engine, and 140,000 on the body.

The Honda in question is a 170,000 mile car made of 170,000 mile parts.

The Honda also has a more worn interior, more scratches, and just as much rust.

The nice thing about selling a Mk3 Supra at the moment is that you won't actually lose much money if you decide to buy another one in 5 years.

On the other hand, add up the storage costs... it's worth it to spend $500 to keep a $10,000 car, but not so much if it's $500 to keep a $1000 car. Figure out what the Supra is worth, realistically.

Save the Supra and get all the looks if you're rolling with it around town. But you don't have to literally DD it, you could find alternatives.

Thats actually a tough call. The Honda is high milage and may or may not last you through college without some kind of repairs. The supra is worth more, and has a fresh engine that should take you through school and simply cost more in gas and maintenance.

Keeping both is the worst of the 3 choices.

I vote keep the supra, sell the honda and put that money aside in a special fund to help pay for gas and insurance for the supra. I make that suggestion not out of any special bias to the supra either, but why not drive the better of the two cars if the financial picture is pretty close to the same. There is something about peace of mind knowing your motor should be good to go.

Dude sell the Honda. That thing is probably burning oil by now. The supra has a fresh engine and if you could afford snow tires , they actually aren;t to bad in snow. As you said you may be dorming, in which case you'll have a light commute anyways.

I voted sell the Supra. The Honda is going to be cheaper to drive and and more practical. Focus on your school now and buy a nice one later.

I got my supra this past winter and it had bald tires and it still handled better then my Honda prelude in the snow....you just gotta keep it easy on the go pedal!!!!

Front wheel drive cars are so much harder to work with and its a high mileage car so it may crap out on you....and gas mileage isnt that bad if you don't drive like a nutt!

Considering you are a member here you have constant access to ANY parts you may need for cheap cause so many people have spare parts so fixing the supra will be affordable! I mean damn I bought a transmission for $225 shipped and it has been perfect and shifts like butter...you can't beat that!
