Kragen/Schuck's/Checker, Vatozone, and Pepe Boys are pretty much worthless IMO. If you get a store that has someone that remotely knows WTF they're doing/talking about, it's a bloody miracle. I went into one of those stores once asking for a specific part for my truck. Had the P/N, and it wasn't specifically for my truck in stock config (I think it was the blower belt), but I went in there and told them I needed the part and gave them the P/N. The guy looked at me like I was a freakin' alien and then asked me the make/model of the vehicle. I told him it's not vehicle-specific, to look up the P/N to see if they have it in stock....we did that song and dance for about 5 min. before someone with half a brain came over to help me.

Hah, I usually say its for a custom car.
I never mention anything with the word Toyota or Supra.
Makes things much easier.

The thing is, every now and then people have the wrong part number. I still don't care, I'll order you whatever you want if you really do want it.

It's pretty easy to spot someone who doesn't know for sure that it's the right part number.

I of course require (for most people) prepayment for such orders. Nobody really complains about that.

I stopped bothering with Halfords years ago - except for tools, oil and anti-freeze. Rather mail order my stuff, or yes, order specific parts from Toyota GB direct (through a dealer is ok, but its a trek and a half to get to one)...

I work at Pep Boys. I'm the guy they call when they have NFI what a part is. I've been working there for a month and they already promoted me to sales team leader and now they are training me to be an assistant manager. I started working there to get discounts on Supra parts but we need to special order every god damn part for the car. And of course we don't get a discount on special ordered parts. We don't even have brake pads for the car. :nono:

I've been tossing around grabbing a second job at one of the parts store locally, but every time I just walk through the door, I get the shudders I don't think once I've gone into one and not left a little bit frustrated..

Big reason why I just go with genuine Toyota for everything, and always go through Champion, Dave and Jeff make it soooo easy.
