Time to get on the job-boards... sounds like you have alot of experience and many of the communications companies have NOC centers (I know Verizon does)... Just gonna come down to what openings they have. Send your resume to "consulting" companies and they'll find a client to contract you out to... most will pay for relocation too.

Thing is depending on the contracting company, your benefits, pay, etc will vary. But it's an easy way to check out a company, while they check out your performance.

Lots of pros/cons, so you'll have to plan accordingly. I have a guy I worked with, who'd let contractors go... almost as soon as he found out they were smokers. Not only was he all religious and says that's a bad thing to do, but he justified it by saying that they took too many breaks.

Basically, as a contractor you are always on the bubble... sounds like you have enough experience to know that tho... Sometimes conultants can find you permanent positions to tho. Good luck!

No AF for me thanks. I like spending time with my Family here in the states

pssst

family don't pay the bills unfortunatly.

Listen family is nice and all but unless they have money coming out the wazoo. They won't pay your car, mortage and all associated bills. And when the going gets tough, you got to do what you have to do even if that requires moving out of state to put food on your table ;)

And being in the AF doesn't mean no time with family. Hell they give you 30 days a year to burn as you deem fit. No company will match that, you can count on that.

And take it from someone with 14+ years of exp. You go to were they pay you best. If you don't you will hit a ceiling and not go up from there. And Florida in general is a shit hole for technology. Reason I moved from Miami to the Twin Cities.

Hey Post your resume on Monster.com in the San Diego Area. SD is the biggest puter town on earth. Give it a shot. I like the earlier post about the Air Force, I taught my daughter computers at home while she was in HS, she’s now in the AF for the last 7 years as an air traffic controller, she’s a Supervisor now, she loves her job, has lived all over and when she gets out her pay scale will far surpass most jobs requiring a master’s degree. The Air Force is also now in charge of our defense against computer attacks. Don’t be fooled there are some jobs in the AF that pay pretty damn good.

..and stick you with me, right over at Hurlburt Field. 3C jobs were worth it 4 years ago when they had insane re-enlistment bonuses. Don't give up your freedom or put your family in the military situation. If you are 25 years old, I would hope that you are either just doing 4 years or becoming a lifer with the military - otherwise it would seem a waste of time taken from another job's retirement plan.

I understand what you mean about getting out of this area. The Gulf Coast is a nice place to visit, but I've lived here since 1998 and I am sick of it and this base. It's not sunny Florida, it's just southern Georgia; "The Redneck Riviera". You also have the deterrent of living with Highway 98, or "Bloody 98" as it's been called forever.

Whatever you do, get the hell out of here, make something of yourself and do what's best for you. I'll be getting out of here in about 280 days and I can't wait..

Well DM, I did 22 years in the war. I got out of the Air Force with 2 Associate Degrees, 1 Bachelors Degree and I Masters Degree and the AF paid for it. So... like anything, it's what you make of it.
