So 14psi is the general consensus for an OEM headgasket? How long did the factory hg's last in Supras before they all started blowing?

theres really no way to know. Are you talking about the factory installed hg or the oem hg in general. Factory hg depended on the card you were dealt. My cars oem gasket blew at 60k miles, i've seen some at 180k miles on 12psi that havent blown yet.

I just finished my HG job. If you don't know what you are doing, you going to be one very frustrated person. Make sure you have the tool to press the oil seals for the cams. I custom fabricated one. Some people say assemble the head out of the car, some say in the car. IMHO assemble that SOB out of the car, it is just easier. also if you use the ARP studs which I recommend, you will probably have trouble gettin the head back on because the studs are too high for the head to fit because of the firewall lip. I can say that there is a very specific order to how you put the car back together, if you don't follow, you will be taking parts back off to get other parts on. Good Luck and plan to spend some time!!!

Wow, so before running any serious boost I need to pull the engine from my car and dissassemble it, take it to the machine shop and have deck and head surfaces machined??? That sucks!

meh... people push their 7m's to over 400 whp on stock HG, but w/ arp head studs of course... no machining needed there

(BTW, i did lapp my block, and have the head machined anyways )

If the factory Headgasket is torqued to factory specs do not increase the boost. it will blow in no time

Do the head gasket.
It's a good learning experience and you get to know your car and it's engine.
I'm in the middle of mine right now and I'm learning a hell of a lot.
Don't be afraid to use the OEM gasket, I'm going to use one. (Just make sure you get ARP's)
I've seen a couple people who did the job right and are pushing right around 400hp on em.
I think it all just boils down to is if you take the time to do it RIGHT.
I'm afraid that mine is going to go wrong somehow, I'm trying to get it done quick while still trying to do it right. I think I'm good so far

You absolutely will regret it later.
I had to teach myself major patience when doing things with my car.
Only piece performance-wise on my car was a JawsGear DS, because my carrier bearing on the stock 2 piece was bad.
Take the time to look the car over THOROUGHLY and replace anything that needs it.
I can't tell you how many times I went to Toyota with a list of 8-10 things at a time that I bought for replacemnet.
You won't regret it later. It's better to start off mechanically sound then trying to go fast while the car falls apart around you.

Yeah def nothing like a Honda...Be very careful with your mods and def fix things that are broken or are reallly old. And research the mods on this site before you buy them!!!

Obviously, everyone seems to think that you should do maintainence first.....but if you're only trying to get around 275-350 hp you can safely and easily get power gains without doing much. I only have a 3" full exhaust, K&N FIPK, lexus AFM, and intercooler pipes and I've noticed signifigant changes. Without a boost controller I already boost at 9 psi safely for 60,000 miles (now 160000). If you think that more power is needed, then you most certainly will have to go with a MGH, some general upkeep, and some fuel upgrades.

yea I'm here to help.Just let me know if you need any. Kylefoto will vouch for me. BTW i just got my engine back in TODAY.(i bought my car in June.) I've never heard it run. I should get a chance tomorrow if all goes well. Why so long? Because I decided to do what was right and build the bottom end with je pistons, eagle rods, all balanced with the HKS 2.0 stopper MHG now I'm $3000 into a car i have never even heard run but you know what I know that the car is going to run great and never fail on me as long as i do everything right. def. at least put a MHG in and inspect you car its worth the time.
