Actually, you should be able to get exactly the same effect if you disconnect the vacuum pump from the CC actuator. (Just unplug the electrical, should do the trick, and if it doesn't work, you can just plug it back in.)

I come from a land down under
My Mk3 was an NA, I reused the NA Vacc cannister when I went Turbo after suffering the CC Nail it on hils BS ;)

Smoothed things out nicely and all my quoted economy figures were done on Cruise for consistancy.

9.7:1 compression ratio, CT2657, E85*, A340E, 4.30 rear end, @ 80mph on the freeway non stop I got 18 mpg. Tuned for slight lean under cruise 15.0 AFR, RPM is at 3300 @ 80mph.

Pretty much the worst possible outcome.

Sometimes I forget you have the best diff ratio for the 1/4 mile, and I have the worst. I am not going to change it though. I hit high 20's and clipped 30 on a tank this summer on a road trip.

unless you're tuned, i find it hard to believe getting anything above 20 mpg highway. I cruise this car, and keep it at a constant 70 mph and get 18 mpg.

I have 3.73 rear and the A340E trans wuith its .70 O/D. By comparison the W58 has .78 5th and the R154 is .75 5th.. So 70 is only about 2500 rpm. Ever hear of fuel trim? I can explain it if needed. And lean cruise. My car is tuned....by Toyota. I also have the Lex meter and 550's. Anyway the rpm which is the primary input for injection duration, along with the airflow meter.

I've gotten anywhere from 22-27mpg highway on my 1j. Only mods are a bit of headwork, exhaust (downpipe too), and 275/40/17 tires in the back, which lower the rpms a BIT. Other than that, it's all in how you drive I think. No cruise for me, was never a fan of it anyway.

Stock 7M with an intake, arp+mhg, 3.7 gears, r154, and extensive aero work/widebody. I was getting 28mpg consistently over the 71 mile trip to Manteca, as long as I stayed out of boost. Pretty sure I could crack 30, maybe 32 if I had lean cruise tunability.

It's to be noted, however, that blowing the doors off an s2000 on I5 will decrease mileage down into the 16-18 range. One hard, 4th gear pull to redline at WOT is all it takes. I cruise at 75, sometimes 80, but always between 2600 and 3000 rpms.

Also of note...aero work really affects mileage as well. In my friends mk3 (NA, eibach springs), passing a semi on a two-lane highway going the other direction causes the car to rock a little in its wake. You can definitely feel it. In my car, I hear the wind pass over, but the car doesn't do anything dramatic at all.

Anyone have a 3.5(jawsgear) rear end? Ive been thinking about going that route for highway miles.

They make one? That's a scary thought thinking how far each gear would go... would do wonders for flat highway traveling.

Richmond used to make a full set of Toyota gears. For the truck, and ours is the same size. Unless my memory is failing what was an unimportant point to me.

Yeah...even with the 3.73, 4th gear takes forever. 3.5 would just be insane on a 7M...but it's fairly close to what the MKIV had with the 6-speed. Think the factory 6MT rear-ends were 3.43? I do know, however, that the lower-geared differentials tend to spool turbos faster because of the load they put on the motor...which would be interesting for a laggy top-end monster. Less lag, more top speed, less wheelspin...sounds like a winner.

My Ford Mustang GT circa 1990 had the hot option 3.08. 80 mph just clipped 2000 rpm with the BW T5 trans.

One of my GTs had 2.73s. Good lord those gears went forever lol

So if the cruise is vacuum operated, could you theoretically if install a MBC or similar in the line thereby limiting the throttle the cruise uses to not go past whatever you choose to set it at?

Perhaps I'm wrong here in my methodology with this; it was just a thought I had today.
