I searched for an extended period of time today and could not find a thread on exactly HOW TO SHIM the wastegate....

I am waiting on the CT26 shims from MDC ( and a new 02 sensor) and decided to jump the gun and figure it out before I get the parts in.

Anyone, can you help me figure out where the shims actually GO? :icon_conf

man, I sound like a newb asking this question...but I havent thought about acutually doing it until I bought them from MDC....hehe

right where the wastgate accurator goes. Its kinda gay becauses Supras.com has been temporly down and they had a perfect right up with pics.

But i'll give it my best shot
1.) take the accordian hose off of the turbo.
2.)the wastgate accurator (right below the tubro inlet) has 2 bolts on it, remove thoses bolts
3.) stick washers(how ever many u want) in behind the wastagate accurator and then stick the bolts back together again
4.) put everything back to gether and enjoy!

here is the best pic i could get:

so question, i just got the kit in from MDC and i was wondering what kind of differences it is making when you guys are installing these...also...1,2,4 and 7...what would be best? i'm sure that using the 7 would be on the edge of pushing it...or not?

it's an incredible difference when you turn up the boost. :) every car is different, as to how many shims/what psi you can push. experiment with it until you get it right. :)

haha....by the time you want 12, 13, or even more out of you[hopfully] rebuilt CT26 snag a MBC and leave one or two on there to prevent it from dropping off close to redline

okay...so nobody has really said anything back on it...but what would be considered "hot" zone(unsafe)...10mm? i was originally going to do 5...because i heard that 7 is pushing...but i'm hearing a lot of different things.

if you put too many on, the bolts won't go back in. (not long enough) put 4 on there, and if you want more, then put more on. i think 5 is about the max for the stock bolts.

personally, i think you'd be better off just getting a MBC... they're cheap, and effective. dr. jonez makes a good one. i shimmed my wastegate simply to hold my max boost until redline. :)

I put 3 washers in...brought it to about 9-10psi.
The boost comes later in 1st gear(dont know if everyone experianced that)
But it builds quicker and harder in every other gear, holdind the boost alot longer.

sounds good, shaeff. i "was" going to start w/ 5...but i'll be safe...before the boost leak occured, i was peaking at 14psi w/o a boost controller or anything...so i am anxious as to what it will be :). thanks.
