Ok, so I bought a 40mm HKS w/g off Jon and he wasnt sure the spring pressure, so I pulled it out, and it's got a little bit of green paint or marker or something on the top... I went to thier site, and they dont list a green top spring... So, how can I determine the pressure rate?

Thanks,
Jake

yeah, well, its an HKS spring, someone has to have used one... I WANT a spring from 18-20psi for the street... I dont wanna take a brand new motor and just VROOM it, lol... Can I take it to my machine shop and have them pressure test it with a spring pressure tool or something?

The green spring is 10.2 psi. It's the same color I had in mine. I could do 7 psi on just wastegate and 29 psi with my HKS EVC EZ. Most of the time with an EVC the bottom port is used to open the valve and the top port is used to put psi back in against the spring to allow you to raise the boost psi past the rated spring pressure.

for higher boost you will need the yellow which is 14 psi or the purple which is 20 psi IIRC. I didnt know there was a green spring? I have a 40mm HKS gate here and it has a 14 psi spring which is a yellowish/lime green color.

This should help end confusion on these Wastegates:

HKS Wastegate Springs

Standard Wastegate Springs:

5.7 psi = White Spring
6.4 psi = Red Spring
14.2 psi = Yellow Spring
20 psi = Purple Spring

GT Wastegate Springs:

Silver (Center Spring)
White/Blue (Outer Spring - Soft)
Red/Green (outer Spring - Hard)

8.5 to 14.2psi = White/Blue Spring Only (no center)
12.8 to 18.5 psi = Red/Green Spring Only (no center)
18.5 to 24.2 psi = Silver Spring AND White/Blue Spring
24.2 to 29.9 psi = Silver Spring AND Red/Green Spring

Racing Wastegate Springs:

10 psi = Yellow Spring (Same spring as used in Standard WG [note different boost level])
14.2 psi = Purple Spring (Same spring as used in Standard WG [note different boost level])
18.5 psi = Gray Spring
22.8 psi = Brown Spring

Hope that helps.

Sean, thanks... That what I needed to know... If you were able to pull 29 psi out of that spring with an EVC EZ, you think I can pull 30+ with the AEM? Or should I just opt for a larger spring?

Brent, remember I can read those, haha! So, yeah, if they fit, I'll take ya up on that offer... lol!

Mike, I actually did check the HKS site for info, but as you can see they dont list the green spring... :)

I deleted it, because I just found out they aren't.

(let me know if you want a higher spring though, you'll tell me if they work.) ;)

Doh, I left the one important comment out of that post... lol

The yellow spring sometimes looks like it is green. I've had a few that I would have sworn were green.
