This should help end confusion on these Wastegates:

HKS Wastegate Springs

Standard Wastegate Springs:

5.7 psi = White Spring
6.4 psi = Red Spring
14.2 psi = Yellow Spring
20 psi = Purple Spring

GT Wastegate Springs:

Silver (Center Spring)
White/Blue (Outer Spring - Soft)
Red/Green (outer Spring - Hard)

8.5 to 14.2psi = White/Blue Spring Only (no center)
12.8 to 18.5 psi = Red/Green Spring Only (no center)
18.5 to 24.2 psi = Silver Spring AND White/Blue Spring
24.2 to 29.9 psi = Silver Spring AND Red/Green Spring

Racing Wastegate Springs:

10 psi = Yellow Spring (Same spring as used in Standard WG [note different boost level])
14.2 psi = Purple Spring (Same spring as used in Standard WG [note different boost level])
18.5 psi = Gray Spring
22.8 psi = Brown Spring

Hope that helps.

Any idea if those colours/values apply to the knock off HKS wastegates? I got a few different springs with mine and have no idea what they are rated to.

When it comes to knockoffs, who knows? There might be a code/pattern or it might be whatever paint was cheapest that day.

I have an old HKS (2000) catalog and it has the green spring listed in there as 10.2 psi for the standard 40 mm gate.
I could push 31 to 32 psi out on the road, but no higher than 29 on the dyno. It would however hold 29 psi until redline.

Sean, did your green spring look like mine, with just a bit of green on the tip or was it completely green like the painted ones Brent showed?

I just gotta determine what size I want before I put this puzzle of an exhaust together, because once its in, its gunna be a monster PITA to pull out and swap springs...

Yes, it looked like your spring and yes they are alot of fun to remove the wastegate from the manifold when it is on the car. I have done this on both the XSPower and my old HKS cast long runner manifold. That was one of the reasons I now have a Tial 44 mm wastegate as it is a v band mount instead of a 4 bolt mount.

I had two HKS wastegates one yellow (14.7psi spring) and one green (10.2psi)
purple is 20psi.

Jeff

I do realize that this is an ancient thread, but I have some of the same questions. I have a Driftmotion 60-1 kit with the 50mm racegate replica, and think that I'd like a heavier spring. Where can I find replacement springs? Will the 40mm WG springs fit and just open at a different pressure? I'd also like a spring of a known value so that I can set my TruBoost. Maybe someone can do a writeup on how to use a compressor to test the opening pressure of an external wastegate. Or maybe a hand-held vacuum pump could be used? Thanks in advance.
