the pressure drop shouldn't be a problem since it is on the return side (barely any pressure to begin with).
I doubt it would cause a restriction in the system

in my post I never side that, it's lack of flow since the fins on the 7m oil cooler are small

I said you will need bigger rez to keep the rez at nice high level and to help prevent air ration witch lead's to cavation under hard use

only time i ever gte my streering really stuiped hot is in my truck

i have upgrade sig pump 1650 psi and rather large cooler and rather large rez and shit still get really hot

ps i have lock front diff thou and hydro ram added to my streering system ( I can park my truck beside wall turn the wheel and pushes my truck side way's hahah )

but alot of people run heavy off set wheel wicht leads to more tire scrub and taxes the steering system and makes it work harder

WTF are you waffling about now... :nono:

It's a closed system with a set volume of fluid, once bled tube/fin size has no bearing at all on the reservoir level...

I think he's saying the stock 7m oil cooler is such a restriction that fluid can't get back to the res fast enough.. resulting in a low Res. Which I find very hard to believe.

Unless there is a leak fluid level in the res is going to stay the same. Can't compress a liquid and it has no where else to go.

hummm how can I explain this more clearly hummm

ever notice your power steering has a cold level and hot level you will fill a system to the cold level once the steering fuild warm up the oil thickin's thus taking more mass but when on the cold mark it's low

mix this with slushing when cornering mixing with air causing aeration and will lead to more issues such as cavatation

it's just better to use tube fin style cooler for steering system every factory car pretty much runs that style any way in less it's just a plain tube style

Hell i find my N/A rez I have in my car has hard time keeping up some times since it's so small in my white car

I ran an 7m oil cooler on my truck and found it havening issue's then replaced it and my issues went away such as the slight moan my pump was makenig

I see part of what you're trying to say, but the oil thins viscosity with heat, not thickens. The level doesnt change too much (compared to, say, coolant) but when it does, it's mostly because it is being recirculated. I dont think youre going to get much aeration unless you have a leak, you're pulling some incredible G forces, or most likely, your power steering level is low..

I ran without a steering cooler for a while after my swap. I noticed after some hwy runs with twistys, that the steering became very notchy and noisy. I installed a small Hayden trans cooler and had no issues after that.

Synthetic fluid works well too. I run synthetic Dexron in all my power steering vehicles. Much more consistent feel from cold to hot, never any issues, stays clean forever. Also handles more heat than regular fluid.

Dex VI is some amazing stuff. It's supposed to be backwards compatible, and I've helped my friend flush two of his cars with it. Because of how tough it is to get all of the old fluid out of the system, I did see a recommendation somewhere to drop the pan with every oil change and replace that fluid with a few quarts of new ATF, and I think it's a pretty good idea personally.

Lol I assume it's been a while since Randy last posted. But yeah I just did my swap a couple months ago and I get the same thing what Randy has. After a few twisties the steering just doesn't feel right, very....off? It's hard to explain the feeling. But I am definitely considering getting a few oil coolers for my car (aka trans, engine oil, and steering).

I also run the 7M cooler on the PS. I mounted it in the fog light opening in the bumper.

It's possible for a fluid cooler to cause cavitation if it were a restriction. I don't see the bubbles making it all the way to the pump though. They would collapse before they reached it unless they reservoir was sealed and under a vacuum (which is possible in the right conditions I suppose).

My steering does have a bit of a whine to it and the fluid does seem to have air in it no matter what I do. I figured my pump was just worn. The system has been working well enough though that I haven't bothered with it. Maybe I'll throw a tube cooler on there as an experiment and see if the whine goes away.

meh i just don't run them i tired it didn't like made some noise

but if you wana try to get rid of you wine you can try pulling out the air with engine vacume all ya need is http://goldwingdocs.com/images/HowTo/GL1500-Change-Front-Brakes/GL1500-Change-Front-Brakes-40.JPG you don't need the vac gun just the cup and lines and just use engine vacume

just get a new cap from your parts store and drill hole int he top of it then thread in ntp fitting of so sort or just buy an adapter for it
