Until the alternator stops whistling..... or the revs stabalize at 900rpms.... either way, takes about 1-2 minutes. Only exceptions are if the car hasn't been used and it's a cold night, it takes a bit longer to warm up.

I let my car idle for probably 30 secs minimum before I take off, but I don't get into boost until its warmed up.

I see people almost everyday including my wife (drives me crazy) get in there car start it and drop it in drive within just a couple of secs...and cars still last as long as they do...it has to be bad for them though.

I have also been concerned about the oil getting pumped through the engine before you put any load on it.

WELL, this was covered by IJ, a while back. He made some very good points that letting your car Idel for a while is actually worse than driving it and staying under 2500rpms for a while.

About 15 seconds if its not very cold outside...

Idling is not good for the car. The proper way is to start the car and drive off gentally. Go slow and take it easy until the car warms up. But don't idle it for a prolonged amount of time unless its below freezing outside.

i've heard on some auto shows that roughly a minute is good enough for it to warm up. Anything longer then that is just wasting gas.

Till the temp gauge reaches nominal temp.

I have remote start so its no bigge really.... if i dont' let it get all the way up then it'll stumble really bad. Dunno why, might be a VPC thing but whatever :)

well my mechanic told me that camshaft's get oil starvation on startup and they wrap badly if you wont let them idle. Thats another 7m problem.
So normaly i let her idle for a min, and just let of, remember, i have thick 10w-60 racing oil, that need a warm up to reach its destination and to become less concentrate.

I usually give mine maybe 30 seconds in warm weather and a minute or two in cooler/cold weather. I try not to boost until my temp gauge is right at it's sweet spot. It just makes me sick to boost unless shes warmed up.

About 15 to 30 seconds here. letting it idle for a period of time other the to get the oil flowing does nothing. The main thing is to keep the RPM and LOAD to a minumum until the oil is up to operating temp. Oil actually has very poor lubrication properties until its warmed up (starting at about 150 to 160 deg.)

Around
start car, watch oil pressure gauge rise to 40+ psi, wait 30 seconds, go.
