I was just wondering how easy you peoples supra's shift?

I guess I'm comparing my 87 supra turbo w/ jdm swapped tranny and engine ~45k miles to my 96 honda civic hx 5spd totally stock with 128k miles

The civic just shifts like butter, compared to my supra. I can be doing like 40mph and shift into 2nd with no hesitation, while on my supra...i could be doing like 30-40 and it takes for ever to down shift into 2nd.

The supra has a centerforce stage 3 clutch and ACT lightweight flywheel.

I havn't had the supra to too long so this is why I'm asking.

I tried to search and couldn't really find anything pertaining to my question.

Thanks in advance!

The r154 in my experience is notchy as hell compared to some other manual transmissions I have driven... but... it's also seemingly bullet proof.

My car seems to be shifting slowly from first to second. If I get on it real hard it takes a second to go into second, but third fourth and fifth are very smooth. I doubt it's as smooth as your honda, but it's smooth enough for me.

Try to refrain from starting any more threads off with "Yo" and you may get more responses. Just a suggestion, Jay

I've heard that RedLine is the best that you can buy to put in your tranny and differential, but I may be wrong. I don't know if it will help your synchronizers if they are going bad though. I'm not a transmission expert. I"m really not an expert in any field. I do have mad people skillz though. Good luck.

Mine's a struggle into 2nd and a little tough into 3rd when it's cold and perfect into the others until everything warms up. If it's over 50 or 60 degrees when I start it up everything's great in all gears right from the start.

Yep...Red Line is excellent. It won't fix synchronizers that are going south though...no manual tranny oil will.

i dont really think my synchros are going out, maybe i will just change the tranny fluid and see if that makes it easier.

It shifts a lot smoother when it is warmer outside though, thats for sure.

R154's shift like they are filled with concrete. Get used to it. If it grinds or won't go into gear without forcing it - its broken.

If its shift - notch - gear. Shift - notch - gear. You're golden.

The redline really cleared up a lot of the crunching and whatnot that i was getting while shifting gears. As a matter of fact i really don't get any noise at all anymore. So, I'd recommend it to everybody.

my w58 n/a shifts like butter compared to my '88T. (Spec stage 3 with stock fw and NM shifter). On the Turbo shifts are short and notchy and harder to pull. Not nearly as fast as na. But of course it has to handle the extra hp & torque. I want to drive a Tundra and check out their 6-spd, perhaps thats a better trans. for the Soups.

most of my gears are good but a bit notchy like everyone says. downshifting into 2nd is a PITA, it grinds almost everytime. i guess im also doing a lot of "driving for gas milage" the best ways i know how. tonight i did actually get a good down-shift and smoked this integra from around here thats been talking alot of crap.. silly honduh.

how much does this RedLine stuff that you speak of cost?
