How do others feel about your Supra?

Okay, maybe this is a weird thread...but how do other people feel about your car? Do people say things like: "I can't believe you love your car, I think that's ridiculous" or "God, let me out of this car, I'm so uncomfortable" or "Why do you spend so much time and money on THAT car??" or "I'm sorry, but your car is ugly" or "Supra's are slow, especially yours" or "It's JUST a car"...

All of these things were said to me this week by friends, family, and others... Does anyone else have this problem?? It has just gotten to the point where I want to tell everyone to f**k off. It has actually put a strain on several of my reltionships with friends, family, etc...because they think I'm retarded for wasting my time on the car...just venting.

the only thing that gets me is when they ask what kind of car you have and you say Supra... their eyes get real big and they automatically think its a twin turbo MKIV. then the look on their faces when i tell them its an '88 and that it only has one turbo. but, what can you do?

Haha, VERY few people I know are interested in cars (that's what Supramania's for if i boost, even to 4psi, they're all like "slow down, OMG!" or "I'm gonna laugh when they give your ass a ticket", or "you're going to make me throw up" or "you're going to make me pass out" or other smug comments of the like...

Soo far my friends have said things like...

"Damn dude, i bet that's expensive" (insurance or the price...they dont have a clue what these things are worth.)

"Nice car!"
that's usually accompanied with:
"How much did you get it for?"
and then I say 1400 and feel like i'm chep because they're usually driving a car worth 5-10 times the KBB value of mine....

"it's kinda cramped in here"
"it's kinda small" (while sitting inside...)
and i have to reply with,
"actually it's pretty big for a sportscar" and then go off on reasons such as the fact we're sitting next to the tranny instead of behind it or on top of it like in your car and other crap to get them to shut up....

OH YEAH and you can never forget or forgive the classic....

"Is that thing a turbo?!"

*shut the @#$% up....* is what i want to say because i envy turbo'd supras, but i'm a nice guy and don't.


i think the lame comments are complete BS unless your car is a total heap...which i doubt. try not to take it to personal...some of those might be because they envy your car, or maybe you payed a fraction for it compared to what they payed for their car that's nice and new...and you and they both know that your 15+ yr old supra is still better then their car.

people that diss cars like ours just don't have taste and shall forever be looked down upon as they drive their fart-can ricer hondas that seem to be everywhere.

i couldnt believe they said mine was small.... appanrently they've never been in a sportscar (a RWD one that actually has a center tranny lump, lumbar support, and a backseat worthy of a 5 year old)

all in all as someone said above, Supra, Everything else is just transportation

i think it really depends on how you keep your car....

5-6 yrs ago when it was in much better body shape, a lot of people would come up to me and say "damn i love those cars, i had one in the day"

lately i've been asked a lot "what kind of car is that" by people that see it from the front. it's not a very common car anymore.

right now my car is pretty rusted, so once i get everything mechanically perfect i'm really looking forward to getting some body work done and wax her up like brand new.

im a senior in highschool..and whenever i pull up in the autoshop to do some work all the younger kids like to swarm around it and get into "turbo" conversations..then theres the other dumbass kids that are like.."that's the turbo? its small..why dont you just buy a bigger one?" yeah its bigger than yours douchebag(talkin to a turboless civic kid)...
my mom isnt for me puttin money into it and workin on it because she drove it once and said its so stiff there must be something wrong.

My parents think it's a huge money pit, especially since I go through the dealership to get 99% of my parts, and since I replace everything I can that shows signs of wear or looks like a near-future failure candidate.

My fiancee loves it, and more importantly she understands how much I love it, so she knows the addictions (to boost, speed, parts) and the emotional rollercoaster I go through being a Supra owner.

In the end though, I don't really notice much what other people think/feel about my car. On the whole I'd think that most people would say it's a huge waste; my dad can't understand how I am so eager to dump money into a car that's 15 years old and will never be a "classic car" in his opinion. I love the car, and I'll always have the most emotional attachment to it out of all the vehicles I own hereafter.

well i can see why when your mods consist of bolts, washers, a horn, lights and sawblades
