Sounds like ill-informed Kiddie Dreamer bullshit to me......

So whats the bullshit what I said or what the shop told me. And why the attitude. I have seen the work they do and if they tell me its that price and I dont get what I was told they will do it for the price they quoted, that is how business works.

I am a master tech A1-A8 plus L1 certified, plus exhaust specialist, plus hybrid certified, i know the industry.

Go measure the distance between cylinders and get back to me on sleeving a 7M....... :nono:
(keep in mind it's a siamese bore block)

In 30+ years of playing with performance engines I've never heard of a Titanium Cylinder Sleeve but have worked with the Grey material quite a bit so doubt the $600 quoted price just in material costs let alone the machine work to fit them....

Aren't clevite bearings reboxed king bearings these days? Last I knew they don't actually make bearings for our engine anymore.

IJ I am not sure if you can sleeve the engine or not, they told me they would do it for that but that just may be a generic price and not if it will fit the application. I have never had to go more than 20 over on a 7m so I have not had to worry about it.

As for the work they only charged $300 for a 3 angle valve grind, machining head, decking block, bore cyls 20 over, knife edge-lighten and balance crank (89+) and all that was with an assembled longblock and head, so the price is in the wow thats too good to be true range, but the work was very well done. As for titanium sleeves, I figured they meant plated, and again that may just be a generic price without looking up application. Or maybe the boat guys got some ancient chinese secret lol. Basically business has been slow for them in boat motors so they are converting over to do performance engines.

Sorry if I have miss informed anyone about being able to sleeve the engine.

Anyways, I have never had to leave an engine in a shop for more than a week, and I have built probably 100 engines so I dont get what their deal was. And the hone should look more of an x then horizontal lines.

You "might" get away with sleeving every 2nd cylinder in a 7M, if you do all 6 chances are the block will fail at quite a low HP level as it relies on the siamesed bores for torsional rigidity.

As I said in my initial post it's ill informed at best for the shop to suggest it and downright stupid at worst, 7M's are thin wall blocks until 89ish then they went to a medium wall design with about +2mm of Iron everywhere, Toyota didn't make this change lightly there had to have been issues, add into this 20 years of corrosion/erosion and you're getting back to the wet noodle..

I wasn’t slamming you I just don’t want people here to read your post and go away thinking it’s factual then spreading the “information”, we’ve spent many years here trying to squash a lot of the urban Supra Myths.

I believe they were reboxed NDC's at some point. The King's I have are already scored thanks to what I believe was a "builder" who never sent my crank for a polish and machining...possibly even had dirty hands when applying redline assembly lube. I can't believe every bearing looks like this. Or maybe King sells a new super advanced scored oil delivery bearings with snake oil fused in? :3d_frown:

Yeah, had to look it up, clevite reboxes many different brands, they may have moved to the cheapy king bearings these days. Though considering the shoddy work by the shop, they probably just bought the cheap ass king bearings.

I look at new 7m clevite bearings everyday. 95% of them are NDC bearings. Some of the odd ball undersizes maybe ACL or Federal Mogual. I have NEVER seen a king bearing in a 7m clevite box so lets not start another internet tale.

Every 7m owner really needs to ask the forum for a reputable shop prior to dropping off the work. For the life of me I can not understand how there can be so many poor shops out there.

I too have tried that, would be nice if there was much response. Either people dont want to talk or theres just not that many good shops around. Im pretty sure the problem is that there are just not very many good shops around. Dealing with machine shops has been a nightmare for me, most places are stuck in their ways and get defensive when you ask specifics or ask them to do things a certain way.

Especially in his case.
