gixxer: thx for the info, but do you know if this will work. i have a w58 5spd, will the gear from an auto work? or do i have to source that from somewhere else.

also, anyone have any time driving a stock NA with the 3.7? if its really slugish then i may go with the 3.9, but id like to know opinions.

thx

The mileage looks better because the spedo is off, not because you are really getting better milage. You are not actually traveling as far as the odometer says you are.
hey, my car was origionaly an 87 NA with sport packages (TEMS) so that means its a 4.30 LSD is i am correct, any way to verify this? Also, my spedo wont be off cuz its the diff that came in the car right? Its a turbo and tranny swap, but i think its the orig diff. Whats the easiest way to check which tranny I have?

You can disconnect your driveshaft at the tranny and rotate it by hand.
When you do that, count the times you have to rotate the driveshaft side to make your tires go round 1 time.

You dont have to disconnect the driveshaft, just put it in neutral. :biglaugh:
Any time you change to a different gear ratio the spedo/odometer will be a little off. If you just put a new diff of the same ratio it will not. If you change the spedo cable drive gear in the trans with one from a car that had the same gear ratio as you are switching to, it will correct the spedo. If you change from a 3.7 to a 4.3, your spedo would show 80mph when you were only going 68.8mph. And when you drove 100 miles on the odometer, you actually only drove 86 miles.

I'm with bigaaron. I've been running 4.30's in my 88 ever since I did my origional HKS conversion. Garret TO4B and all supporting mods. I run 275/40/17 BFG Comp TA KD's. Pricey, but they hook better than most. I can light em up on a second gear roll if I get aggressive but hey, its a blast. On the street I feel that 4.30's are a definite advantage.
