haha yes it would.. dont let people on here tell you which car you should or shouldn't like, thats your choice to make not theirs. personally I love supra's weather it be a MK2 MK3 or MK4 I like them all. They all may have there advantages and disadvantages, but they are still all SUPRA'S.

Most MK4's under 15 or 20k are either NA's (not worht the hassle) or ragged to shit or fake craigslist ads.

IDK man if you find a good deal then more power to you, you could get a nice already built MK3 with a 2JZ or 1JZ or 1.5JZ and all for less than 10k or so if you check forums and stuff some. If I could buy an MK4 I would but now days if I had 20k I wouldn't blow it on an older supra as much as I'd love to moneys hard to come by man.

Budgeting?

Budgeting doesn't work for a personal life. It works great for a buisiness where there are only needs, but in life there are wants. People think they want something, and eventually they talk themselves into thinking they need it. You've got yourself talked into thinking you need a Supra. Budgeting alone will never, ever get you ahead... unless you like living in a cave.

Let's talk about realistic values:

Let me explain the upsides to having a supra: A place to dump money into, a place to dump time into, all to make something that may be potentially fast. Going fast of course will net you speeding tickets and more insurance costs. Sure, they're nice cars once you've dealt with the rust and mechanical issues, worn out interiors, ect.

I'm sorry to report, but I don't think a car alone has ever really aided any male in picking up a female that was worth more than one night or a few fucks. Charisma and charm are much cheaper... if even free.

So really, what do you get out of owning a supra? A very freakin' expensive hobby. Yes, I know they can be reliable, but in the end it's just a car. Allow me to inform you of what cars, any car, on average, will do for your financial future: Sweet Fuck All.

They are not an investment, they always (as in 99.99999% of the time) have a very high negative rate of return. Imagine an investment that eats your money up and shits out air. That's what a car does. It is hardly an asset.

So you're going to go out and get a big fat loan on a sports car during a recession where you could potentially be making an engineer's wages... instead of buying a house while real-estate prices are in the shitter, or buying mutual funds while the market is tanked? It'll go up, and so will your investments. Then that paultry 20 grand you put in last month turns into a few hundred grand in 10 years, then you can take your cream of the crop for supras.

If there's one consistent I've seen, it's that anyone who doesn't spend disposable income on their Supra, the Supra owns them. They make a paycheck, it goes straight into the car. Who on this forums owns the car, and who's car owns them? Seriously, I'm willing to bet alot more than I think fall into the latter catagory.

You want my advice? Take a deep breath of reality, buy a 1991 Honda Civic hatch, stock, and drive the wheels off that until you can pay cash for something nice.

Thanks for your input Keros. You make valid points. However, I will not just buy a beater. I'm tired of those. Its not the BEST choice to make, but one I have already made. I remember how much fun i had, and how proud I was of my first Supra; the first car i bought myself. Mint, new mechanically, targa, a blast to drive and show off. Very few issues (in the scheme of things) and I feel I was robbed of that, now twice (though the second time around i wasn't really happy with the car). I want that back, I'm getting that back, one way or another.

lol, I can't argue with the desire to not have a beater. I don't, and never have, had a beater... one thing I regret.

I've been considering for a long time something that one could call 'brand karma'. It's the concept that some people just aren't destined to own some brands of vehicles, no matter how much they want to. Of course, I have no substantial numbers to back up these claims, but anyway... I'm sure you know someone who has a Chevy that just refuses to die no matter what the guy does to it (and he's probably owned other chevys with great track records). But, you probably know (or have heard of) other people with the same model of chevy that just doesn't last worth a damn.

Same with any other brand. I have a family friend who has bought dodges all his life (and he's stinkin' old!), and they've always been sold in running condition, not a damn thing wrong. My grandfather has owned several dodges, all plauged by mysterious problems and failures, dispite routine dealer maintanence.

Karma? Happen-stance? 'bad luck'? Or just wierd coincidence... I'll never know. Anyway, Toyta Supras may just not be your car ;) Maybe it's time to try something else.

I had the money to buy an MK4 cash. So I went out and did the smart thing and picked up a 2 year old C6 corvette. Kind of nice having a 12 second car that needs nothing.

budgeting works great actually. It does require self control though. Talking your want into a need is simply a lack of control. Nothing about budgeting requires you live like a caveman unless you set your budget up that way.
i do agree with the rest.

If my supra ever gets totaled, im looking for a clean SC400 or GS400 to play with and slap a pair of turbos on. Not a MKIV kinda guy.

Am I the only one who bought a mkIII because I like it better than the mkIV?

I did. As said a few page or so back, I prefer the feel of the MKIII. MKIV's can be pretty, but MKIII's are just plain badass. Trust me, with the time and effort that I have collectively into MKIII's, I could have a MKIV. But I've still got my MKIII and no regrets.
