Dub: Only so much you can do. Hell, I even posted a link where all he has to do is punch numbers in. . ;)

I just know this much, with that dish and any metal head gasket he won't be able to recreate the 8.4:1 compression.

True...but with a stock thickness MHG, he'll be a heck of a lot closer ;)
Quench will be a lot closer to stock too!

hitting 8.4:1 doesnt matter to me. and i'll do the math... but im at "work" right now... haha

i'd give it a shot but im re-routing LAN lines right now.

and by the "saddle" do you mean were the two come together???

so im a little confused on the math.

combustion chamber volume? where is that number coming from? lol

i figured out since my motor is .40'' over... i have a 3.1L now! haha (well 3097cc)

gasket volume - 11.617
cylinder volume 3097 (516each)

and if i did it "right" with that one link, with a 2mm gasket i'll have 8.5:1 compression!

1.2mm - 9.058:1
2mm - 8.513:1
3mm - 7.927:1

i had NO idea that a head gasket could make that much of a difference... im really happy i decided to do a little research and ask what i thought was a "dumb" question...

and im still thinking of running a 3mm just so i can have that little drop and run more boost in the long run... but not quite sure.

lol we all knew that.

CR depends on your goals. and CC volume comes from the volume in the head.

i didnt... which is why i posted it. a lot of people, including myself dont understand that a head gasket can make a huge impact on there motor.

and where does the CC come from though? what math is used to figure that out? i see a number in your formula, but wheres its origin?

Search CC volume. If you turn the head over you'll see it's inverted. that 37.5 CC's is that measurement.

It's basic geometry. Imagine if you were to take a mold onto the head you would get 37.5 Cubic Centimeters of material in each cylinder.
^simple way to explain it.

my bore is 85mm as im .40'' over

.40'' = 1mm

and i know how to get the CC volume, but just wasnt sure where you got your number, but i'll go look at my head tomorrow.

pi x 42.5 x 42.5 x 91 / 1000 = 516.38

then times that by 6 = 3098.28cc = 3.1L of pure engine! haha

So Rennat now that you've determined what you need why not get a Cometic gasket? Its the same shiz man and 1/2 the price of HKS. Its whats goin on Pino's car, my Supra, the MR2 I recently built, and the 350-400 GSX and the 330hp GSR i'm building. They're also used in 1000hp+ dragsters and come in a wide variety of thicknesses, plus cometic will custom make gaskets too if you need them thicker or a wider bore.

Just a heads up

of course, it's 99% prep & 1% brand of gasket..... btw, I'm on a 3mm hks bead and i've zung it too many times to count, a tad lower comp keeps it alive a little longer when you're rough on them ;)

my parents are paying for me to go to college right now, and i thank them so much for that opportunity to better myself. especially when i start ARC up in sacramento for a welding degree!!!!! (custom EVERYTHING HAHAHAH)

for me to run a cometic gasket it would need to be a 2mm+ AND 86mm bore. as my block is bored .40'' over...
i've heard great things about them, but i've heard just as good of things about HKS (like people destroying there motors and the head gasket is still good)

im really thinking about the 3mm just because its cheaper, and then i can put more boost through it later, and it wouldnt be quite as picky if something happens.

and who the fuck are you again? what makes somebody a "professional"...? to me, IJ and some of the others on here i consider more than "professional" which is why i COME HERE.

I started my build NOT knowing which head gasket i wanted because:

A) I didnt know how much was going to be shaved from the head
B) I didnt know how much was going to be shaved from the block
C) There are a lot of different head gaskets to choose

and seeing how i didnt need a head gasket like say... rod bearings, i put it off until i did some searching, and ASKING on here. thus, i made this thread. If you have no personal input to put toward the topic then just go die.

:wavey: ummm... I'm a professional... So Cometics are available in 2mm and 86 bore. U in luck holmes. Just like you heard about HKS I've overheated my motor like 3 times, blown hoses off and cracked spark plugs, but no BHG :biglaugh::biglaugh:
I'd more like 90% prep 10% gasket. YOu cant expect a composite Rock gasket to withstand what an MLS can do
