So Cal
Well I failed trying to explain this in a different thread so I am tring again in detail. It started last sunday. I ran the car around the block hard in the morning the car was warmed up and everything seemed fine but I noticed that the Supra seemed a lil slower than usual. I came home and then took it out to go to the store. The car felt horrible It has bad hesitation under acceleration. boost pressure is fine. Oil is fine and coolant is fine. the car would do this waaaaaaaaa pa pa ugh and it would jerk kinda, followed by a nasty egg like order. I checked the codes and code 51 keeps poping up. I had a TPS so I decided to change that just to see but that wasn't it. I took out the number 1 spark plug it is carbon fouled. Those will need to replaced because we haven't. I will keep you guys posted after I replace the plugs. One thing was wierd after I installed the TPS I took it around the block and it was pulling alot better not as much hesitation and then when I got to a stop and took off it was back to the hesitation under acceleration and a lil bit of that smell again. I don't know alot about the car I learn something new everytime I work on it. I don't know what the ISC or CPS or any of the electronic componets. If any of you guys live in So. Cal and you have some spare time I would be so grateful if I could receive help. Thanks guys

Rotten egg smell, probably a catalytic converter. Try a test pipe, and if the smell goes away and problem seems to resolve, replace your cat(s).

Only problem is that I can't work on my car where I live and I am afraid to drive it anywhere... I will have to wake up at 5:30 AM on saturday and do 2 things do the plugs and the cat.

I live in an apartment complex they clearly stated that all cars must be in working condition and no work must be done in the complex. So the only way to do it is to wake up really early and do it b4 anyone wakes up.

Oh yes it's the way the complex insures itself so you don't die under a Supra.

You have any friends house's you can do this at?

I have a place but its not close by and worse off its up hill... 5 miles away.

I have another pal just up the street but he sucks, really unreliable. So I dunno. It would be easier if I had someone close by that knew what the hell they were doing lol.

try taking your car to a quiet street (preferably a dead end) that isnt too far away. then do some work on it... if the residents dont have a problem

Well now the one problem with that is the car won't even start. It cranks up but doesn't start. A couple guys said it would be the CPS because he said I was explaining the same symptoms. My TSRM said showed my symptoms and said it was either bad spark plugs the igniter or the CPS. I checked the igniter and it checks out fine. my coil pack and wires are fine. The plugs are trash and need to be replaced. its probably why the car felt like the life was sucked out of it. The car needs valve job I am guessing due to lose valves it fouled the plugs which they are. My only bet is on the CPS. the Power steering res has been leaking like crazy all over it and the the that whole side of the block. it ate up the rack and pinion boots and is eating the lower IC Hoses but they still are holding but will need to be replaced soon. I am going to check the CPS with a feeler gauge. I took it out. Odds are its bad its filled with crud and the cap is cracked. My wireing might be bad as well it has alot of sludgey junk on it and the insulation is brittle. and moist. We shall see anyone want pics? lemme know I will post on here.

likely its your cps. most of the time you can just perform the "jiggle the wire" trick. have someone jiggle the wires on the cps connector while you try to start the car. might have to rewire it if thats the problem

I guess I will just reinstall the old CPS and then have some one jiggle it. Hey b4 I do this can't I just check the cps with a feeler gauge, and if the gap is off should I just replace it?

I would lean toward Cat, but just as a fair warning, if a exhaust valve is stuck open, it would give you the same symptoms.

Exhuast valve as in the one in the head right?

Yeah, in the head. If valve timmimg isn't correct then it will throw off your CPS 8 deg per tooth (I THINK 8 deg is correct). Plus, if the exhaust valve opens too soon then you could still be burning while the valve opens, causing VERY high temps in your exhaust, thus burning the honeycomb in your cat, giving off a NASTY, rotten egg smell.

I'm not convinced that just firing at the wrong time would cause your cat to get THAT hot.... It wouldn't take more than 15-20 min to pull your timming belt cover and be sure that your crank and cams are still at TDC and that your timming belt is still in good shape.
