if money is not a question then this should be over with. if you don't mind spending double the money then go for it. because they won't cost the "same".

Based on what FACTS. No, not I have a friend, (that is ancedotal) or I have heard (that is speculative). I mean facts (quite easy to shop for parts for both so get to it).

im a 7m lover but run a 2j in my mk3. with my motor a little over 70,000 miles i can say that im starting to see more and more problems with it just like a 7m for sale on Craigslist. not the same probles of course.

now for those of you who want to bash on me its not that im irresponsible with my motor but dont have the time or funds to do so at the moment. that is the reason why it is currently sitting on the street.

as for the motor you should get, 2j in my opinion.

i still love the 7m

completely agree!

i like to point this out when people ask me how to swap in a JZ and how my 7m was running fine and i had already done the headgasket before it had a chance to blow etc.

+1

I had my headgasket replaced before it had the chance to blow as well. It was cheap preventative maintenance.

2jzge+T, but I'm a little biased :)

My decision was $250 short block that is 700hp capable vs. $2k+ motor build that could blow up on first start due to a stupid mistake I would inevitably make :biglaugh:

One thing you have not not elaborated on, is what are your power goals for now, and estimated future goals. No sence in doing things 2x. Under 500whp, go with the 7m. Anything over that, look towards the 2jz.

BTW doward, way to shit on us 1jz guys ;) You also forgot the oiling system, as there is nothing from an ariso oil setup you can or should reuse(front vs rear sump). New upper and lower pans, pump, baffle, strainer and pickup tube with assosciated gaskets and FIPG black.
I guess us 1jz guys are here for the gas milage of a pretty 2.5l motor with blown stock twins, and remidying them will cost most people over 1k (closer to 2-2.5).

No offense intended forever :D

I'm glad to see someone actually read all that I posted, though. Sometimes I feel like I'm swimming against a stream of stupidity around here.

I'm just too stubborn to stop ;)

Here is for all you haters...
Before I swapped in my 2jz...I tried to blow it up...when I drained the oil...it had 2 qrts left... was 4k miles over due for an oil change. Had just tap water running threw it and no fan shroud. Granted it was an NA...but still its a 7m.

Maybe I have a heavy foot but I seem to be unable to get good mpg out of my 1jz.
7m has a better sound to it IMO.

Have u guys been looking in the dyno section lately. 7ms are proving themselves over and over again. I have to agree with a comment somebody said early. Take into factor future goals. If u plan on going for 1000hp maybe 2j is a better choice. If not stay with the 7m. I just brought a 2jzge but I also have stupid dreams . 1000hp ones:evil2:

Hey...There are 1000+hp 7M's, too. ;)

You know...It really makes me wonder sometimes, how time progresses and what little we tend to know as "facts" change so unexpectedly.

Example?
I can refer back to late 90's, early 00's,
When, a "high horsepower" 7M was anything 450+rwhp...
When, people by the bulk would swear up and down a 7M wasn't capable
of making over 4XXrwhp without upgrading internals.

Where do we sit now? Mr. Sean (xman) making 753rwhp on 100% factory parts (internally, of course). This would have been UNHEARD of even acouple years ago...
But it happened.

People really need to stop doubting the 7M for what it is.
Because I can tell you right now, If the 7M rolled over into MKIV's and JZ's never existed,
You better bet your ass there'd be more quadruple-digit horsepower figures from 7M's.

Why? Because [most] MKIV owners can afford to build it CORRECTLY. ;)

The fact of the matter is...

If you PROPERLY build a 7M, and are smart with it (Maintenanace, Tune, etc),
The results are fascinating.

I don't think anyone in their right mind can stand on two legs defending against this.

Of course, if you build it right with enough money, ANY motor can hold it's own...
But not many 20 year old motors are capable of making over 750rwhp on factory internals.

For you 7M haters...Is this really not enough evidence that the 7M can be an absolutely AMAZING powerhouse when it's not in the hands of a broke teenager?

As I sit here within ownership of a 1JZ, I can still proudly say I'm a 7M lover.

Just because a large majority of 7M MKIII owners are young, broke & uneducated doesn't mean a damned thing. It just means that MKIII's are afforable enough for low-income individuals, and given it's a 1xx,xxx+ 20 year old motor...
Shit is going to break. Simple as that.

Also, For the love of the representing 7M Supra community,
Please get those damned, "7M Free Zone since xxxx" sayings out of your Signature.

IMO, It only shows ignorance and is a bit aggrevating to me, if you ask.
Besides, I'm sure your 7M didn't blow up "for no reason".

Stop blaming your motor for your mistakes. ;)

Jeff

My 2JZ-GTE has a BHG at ~60K miles, and I never overheated it or abused it! (May have been abused before I got it?)

I wanted a 2JZ for the oiling system and for all the things that the engine was stock (twin-turbo, ffim, metal headgasket- not that the MHG did me any good. :()

Needless to say that if I had put all the time and money into my old 7M that I have into my 2JZ setup, my 7M would be relentlessly raping JZ's left and right. However, for my goals I like the 2JZ better, and I believe it all comes down to personal goals and oppinion when choosing your engine.

the only time ive seen headgaskets blow on a JZ is when there are other factors involved...

and boost a good tune goes a long way ;p im sure if i strolled into somewhere and asked for the same tune i would be paying out the ass

I just finished a 7mgte rebuild and conversion and for the amount it cost me I couldve done a 2jz swap into my car. But at least I know everything was done right.
I *am* slightly regretting that I didnt go the 2JZ route, but I'm gonna stick with it and show the non-believers that the 7M can be a good engine.

Plus, it puts a smile on my face every time I drive the car, and sounds hell tough, and thats all that matters :evil2:
