Heater not working - 1jz swap related?

OK, My heater is not working after this swap. Checked the heater wires and they are hooked up correctly to the harness and the coresponding dash harness . ( 1jz )
Heater valve works when vacumn is applied directly bypassing the vsv.

Tried two different VSVs and tried controlling the heat with the controls, and still not working.

I applied a direct wire to the heater vsv plug and nothing happend. ( wire was from the dash harness coming out of heater controls? ( not sure of this)

I have tried another working hear/climate controller as well and no luck.

Anyone else with a 1jz swap having this issue?

Moe and I were talking about this today, I really want heat in my 1JZ.

Is it possibly, because Japanese cars came with a mechanical linkage(arms) for their climate control, that ours just hrow it outta whack?

check your vacuum hose routing and make sure a fuse isn't blown. When I tripped a fuse, my 12v cigarette lighter & heater/ac wouldn't work either. I replaced the fuse and it fixed everything :flamed:

Kyle,
I don't think that would be an issue with the linkage type. We are using the same controls for ac and that seems to work for those who have ac. The wire is still the same.

Unless U used a 1JZ out of a Soarer, I dunno why it wouldn't work. With the JZA70 harnesses I had, they still had the little 2-wire connector to the VSV and my heater worked.

So, I suggest if you don't have that connector, that you get one from the junkyard (should be found in other Toyotas, right?). Or, pull the connector off a spare 7M harness and manually wire it/connect it to the dash connector (dunno which one, but should be easy enough to find).

Moe, may be completely unrelated to your problem, but I lost heat temporarily after my 1j swap when the vacuum line to the VSV? (on passenger firewall) popped off. See if the line is pulling sufficient vacuum to operate it or if its even attached.

When it happened it made my system only blow cold air out.

A closeup would be better, Thanks for offering Matt.

Since I can change speed I assume the heater flap works correctly, Its just a matter of geTTing the VSV all good, then it may be an electrical problem

mine was not working either. Problem is, there is a foam seal. After time, the seal breaks down and becomes sticky... The sticky foam prevents the flap from opening back up.

I like to keep my temp set to 76 or 77. Keeps the flap open, and coolant constantly flowing through the heater core. It's a good practice to do.

If the foam was holding the flap shut, then how would one explain the heat coming through when the vacum is directly plugged into the heater valve bypassing the VSV - solenoid?

The small lever on the valve moves up and down as you apply and remove the vacum hose. THis should relate to the fact that the flap door is also opening and closing.
