If the foam was holding the flap shut, then how would one explain the heat coming through when the vacum is directly plugged into the heater valve bypassing the VSV - solenoid?

The small lever on the valve moves up and down as you apply and remove the vacum hose. THis should relate to the fact that the flap door is also opening and closing.
obviously we had two different problems then.

Probabaly, but I will definitely be checking that flap door in the morning.
I wanted to make sure that it was directly related to the heater valve closing up and down and at that same time the door was opening/closing . I can actually hear the flap open...

Well. This is what I found after looking at the 1jz and the 7m CC diagram.

There is a yellow wire and the black/yellow wire at the vsv connection near the vlave.

According to the diagram, the Yellow wire comes from the fuse box near the kick panel. It is coming off of a 7.5 fuse . This yellow wire is part of the gauge fuse circuit.
This is the power wire and should have juice. I know mine had no Juice when I tested for power on this wire.

So from Fuse box, Yellow goes to the VSV, then out the Black /Yellow wire to the IH1 connector. This should be the one for dash connector.

I don't think this wire is wired up correctly in the main harness.
I will try this tomorow. :
