Heater fan stopped working

87 Supra Turbo, vsv already bypassed but that doesn't matter because the fan doesn't turn on.

I searched and the fuse for the heater fan is in the passenger kickpanel. I just took out the kickpanel and I see a few fuses behind the ECT box but none were popped out (unless I have to replace it, I don't think I do).

With the car in the ON position, if I turn on the heat, there is a brass arm near the center console (NOT on the passenger kickpanel side, where the heater controls are on the center dash) that moves a white plastic arm up and down. It moves a bit then stops, moves and stops, moves and stops....all while the fan doesn't come on.

Anyone have any guesses/info/links? Thanks!

edit: Relevant info I've found from search, for other people stumbling across this thread or people want to comment on:

if your car was sitting for awhile, you probably have leaves and crap built up in there. (i did after my car sat in the driveway for 8ish months) chances are, your blower motor resistor is dead. grab a flashlight, and look under your glovebox. behind it, you'll see a white box. there's a black piece screwed onto it with only one screw, and one connector with several wires. that's the blower motor resistor. pull it out (be careful, it's fragile) and either solder the resistors back together, or get a new OEM one for like $20 from champion toyota.

the blower motor isn't really that easily accessable. you could take out the glove box, and turn the selector switch to "inside air" (it's actually a diagram, but you get the point) so that the flapper door closes off the outside air duct, then (i cut out that stupid plastic screen) reach through the plastic screen to clean out the leaves and crap.

Dammit, no pictures. I think I've unscrewed and screwed back in everything but what I need lol.

AHA! PICTURES! http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/TechTips/blower_resistors.aspx
 I couldn't get that screw out due to my position in the seat so I said "screw it, that couldn't be it"...what the hell.

Update: The low resistor is definitely broken, couldn't find any breaks in the medium or high resistors...I'm ordering a new one regardless, but I'm not sure it'll fix my problem.

Yes, it's a single screw on the bottom of the blower motor housing that holds it in. Make sure you screw it back in there securely! If you don't, the resistor WILL fall out, and it gets VERY hot. It WILL melt your carpet. :( Ask me how I know. :(

By the way, nice job on the searching. ::w00t::

would the resistor die after extended indoor storage? Mine had done the same thing, but I havent worried to much about it, as I dont drive in the winter/rain

:D Thanks haha.

Sucks about the carpet :( I'll remember to put it in there tightly when I get the new one. I think it's the motor though, because the only coil that is broken is the low and the fan didn't turn on at all...I'll find out on Monday, and also clean out any gunk that's behind the screen you were talking about, that can't hurt.

Jayhall: in the car? It's possible but extremely unlikely. It's not actually that hard to take out, you don't have to take out any trim pieces and it's just one screw. Don't break it when you pull it out, then you'll have to get a new one.

Jayhall- as SideWinder stated, it's easy. One screw and it's out. It's not likely that sitting in storage would kill it, unless somehow liquid leaked on it and corroded it. I guess it could happen...

SideWinder- Yeah, especially since the carpet was pretty nice, too. Are you sure that the connections on the HVAC unit are secure?

Where are these HVAC connections? My heater has a mind of its own, usually stays on for a day then off, I always have it on medium though. Thought it might be the relay but it checked out. Isn't there a circuit breaker somewhere too shaeff?

There's a silver fuse box in the passenger kick panel that I had to poke a needle through to reset, it clicked when I poked it down.

All the wires look fine and all the connectors were in place when I looked under there.

I took our the blower motor and wired it straight to the car battery, it turned on and the white circular thing spun around (almost got my hoodie caught in it haha).

New resistor coming in tomorrow I believe, if it's not that I'm gonna have to delve deeper :(

shaeff: The connectors for the high/medium/low/ac buttons? I'm not sure, I didn't take anything out near the dash. How difficult would it be to check? The green lights for each button and the temperature screen all work.

LOL Dumbo I hadn't even looked at it :)

I have a spare from a halfcut so I'll swap it in, good timing as I have the glovebox out to remove some wiring from the engine part out! (thanks for the link)

...are you talking about the resistors, or something else I don't know about? Any more info/links/exact location/description please?
