Has anyone heard of an "X-brace" for the mk3?

i know spoon makes a nice x-brace for the honda s2k and i know for a fact that 94-98 mustang convertables come with xbraces there ground clearance is about the same as mysupra so the brace is made of square stock to and tucked tight against the bottom of the car

they don't have the huge boxed framework we do... the subframe connectors go on that spot...

the S2000 doesn't need any such frames so far as I'm concerned, the damn thing was very well tuned.

Keep in mind that your chassis is part of the suspension. It has a certain amount of spring and twisting too it. If it's eliminated, the suspension takes all the load, and if it's too stiff can actually RUIN handling...

The BEST thing you can do on these cars is making sure everything is torqued back to spec. The subframe bolts on mine where SCARY loose... Tightening them made it feel like a whole new car, even reduced targa shimmy...

the manual doesn't say to retorque the subframe bolts for nothing i re torqued mine and made the car ride a lot smoother and yea 1 of them was scary loose

This is an interesting thread , I found myself asking the same thing about the MKII . Same result some said, maybe , yes, nope , don't , how , would be nice , what if .. so basically I cut out the spare tire area , cleaned up the frame rails , X braced it and toped it off with a sheet of 18Guage sheetmetal . I more than doubled the HP output of my car so I decided I should try to make it as solid as possible . Mine is a little older but the outcome is the same . Less flex = less body roll = less stress on an old chassis. I'm not an engineer so forgive my crude work but the end result is a much more stable car at high speeds and a more controlable weight transfer in the twisties. I've had 4 so I can say it is an improvement .. Just my .02c :icon_bigg

LOL !! I only see 2 in that pic the rest is slick 50 , rust converter , white lithium etc but I do have plenty more spray cans :naughty: buy low .. ( fix Up /touch up ) sell high !! I've been doing it for years so that shit piles up .. Gotta pay for my Supra addiction somehow .....:nono:

ms07 ... thanks, it isn't for everyone and some will argue it's design but it works and thats enough for me !!

I've spent a considerable amount of time using the old Chief EZ-Liner (frame straightener) and having seen and straightened alot of frames and unibodys, I honestly don't see how an x-brace under a MKIII would stiffen up the chassis on a sport roof.

I think someone mentioned triangulation earlier. Thats what it's all about.

In order to stiffen up a sport roof (bracing from underneath) to the point where it would make any noticable or actual difference, you would have to put so much metal under the car it would be totally unfeasible (from both weight and space perspective).

I've seen where cars bend, and my observation is:

Bracing the sport roof at the targa gap (shock tower bracing notwithstanding) is the only way that makes sense and will have any real effect.

fwiw.

I think the mention of the convertable mustangs and camaros, have the bracing under neath tied into extra bracing around the door area. so instead of the car bending down in the middle (or up) with the axis being in the middle of the door sill, the "U" shaped bracing around the door frame keeps that from flexing. Ive herd of this bracing, unsure if its truth or myth.
