Has anyone else broken a shift fork or is this just a bad one (Isolated Incident)???? Its an R154 3/4 Shift Fork. This is the third time I have broken the transmission in 3 mounts. I haven't even put 500mi since. Its getting retarded.

I guess I should have expected it since I upgraded the clutch and tires =) something has to give... right. This was more abuse I guess than anything but still. I was surprised to see that there was significant wear on the trust washer and 2nd gear hub after the disassembly. Considering I'm running Redline 75W90NS.... Every trans I have disassembled have had the same wear on the trust faces.

I modified the center section and I will be running 75w110 Amsoil I will update this later

This was more or less abuse and weak part IMO. But just wondering if there is more out there. If it is common we can have billet forks made just like all the t45... they have a weak shift forks... Friend of mine just broke on a T45 last year and got Billet replacements. Much beefier.

You broke the shift fork by overtravel of the shifter. Once you are in gear, that is it - quit pulling on the gear shifter.

Otherwise, you get this.

Ian's right - shift stops will prevent this from happening. Marlin Crawler's solid 1st gear thrust washer will also help with the wear you see.

After I finish the rear BBK, I'm going to build a new shifter - one with positive 2-3rd tension, as well as positive stops.

BTW the fork broke before I even hit 3rd gear... so positive stops or not its not the issue!!!

When you break a fork you can write all about it and let us know on your genius solution for it. Till then STFU.
