gutting the cat

searched and couldn't find any through and through instructions, so maybe i'll do a writeup if no one else has done it already.

however, i also need some direction. i've thought about making a test pipe, but i have a spare cat so i think i'm just going to modify this instead.

here's the plan:

hammer and bar til i've knocked most or all of the ceramic (it is ceramic, isnt it?) out, then take a 2.5" or 3" section of exhaust pipe from advance auto (whichever diameter it is) and weld it inside the flanges, making sure the flanges will fit flush.

after that, just bolt my new 'cat' in place of the old cat and use stainless hardware and fresh gaskets.

anything else i should do while under there/be cautious about?

Save the envirment. Dont use a test pipe.

Its just gonna be louder and make it smell like crap.

Get a high flow cat.....

I concur. The stench of my car's exhaust made me buy a Magnaflow hi-flow cat. They are quite large inside so I think they will flow well.

They are faily cheap, work veryyy veryyy well, almost as good as a test pipe, youll pass inspection/emissions, wont be as harmful to the enviroment, and they dont smell

definitely something to think about, but it costs me $200 to save the environment.

it costs me nothing to get louder, smellier and unhealthier.

I thought so. Some say its not, everytime stopping at a stop light made me make an unpleasent face.....

Shouldnt the enviroment be more inportant to you than a few HP's?

Windows down, even at stop lights, I smell nothing. Even if I kneel down near the exhaust while it's running I don't smell anything out of the ordinary.

Most of the Supras I see usually are JZ'd anyway.
