Well, I found a gun that I really like. Not only for its size, but also the weight and the reports of others online how well it shoots.

My question if for you gun guys:

Have you ever had any experience with the STI 1911 copies?

Have you ever heard of any major problems with the STI LS 9?

What should I expect to pay for either a lightly used LS 9 or new LS 9?

Thanks for your input.

STI makes a really really nice weapon. I've always been impressed with them and an STI Guardian is on the list of contenders for replacing my aging daily carry gun.

It's pretty hard to go wrong with an STI. Very high quality stuff. Prices aren't too bad for the LS series. Between $700 & $800 last time I checked. The LS series guns have some fairly substantial differences from a standard 1911, although they use the same controls, etc. It's much more "smoothed out" than a 1911.

Basically the "upper" is a completely new design. However the lower and quite a few of it's parts are "1911" compatible.

The Guardian is a bit pricier (right around $1000), but it's really more of a 1911 clone than the LS series:

Mike - thank you for replying and posting the facts about that little sh!t. Sometimes I wish you would give me OT powers. :)

Also, a big thank you for replying about the side arm.

The LS 9 I have available to me is $500. Its almost new. I personally saw it new, and saw the 10 rounds go through it.

I took the gun apart and checked the wear areas of the gun, and the gun bore - all flawless and as should be with 10 rounds.

Do you think this would be a good "investment" for $500?

I dont know much about guns, but I do love em. Correct me if I am wrong, but arent glocks fairly cheap? for that price I would get a fairly nice glock. They are nice n light with quite the punch.

The STI guns from what I have read in the 1911 forums are made for racing.

Compaired to a stock glock, these things are Ferraris.

Keep in mind also, the LS 9 Im looking at, is only .765" (little bigger than 3/4") wide in its body.

Thats pretty damn thin.

If guns offend you, why do you enter a thread clearly about guns?
Stick your head back in the sand and all will be well ;)

Jon - I've handled an STI...he looks and feels like a fine 1911 clone and it would be easy to carry concealed.
Haven't had a chance to fire one though.

$500 is a great price for that weapon as described, I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it.

The L9 is one of the thinnest .45's you can get. Nice concealment weapon.

As for speed guns, that's what STI is know for. It's one of the few compaines where you can buy something like this 100% stock off the shelf:

Legend07-Main.jpg

The STI Legend...

  • Hard chromed slide and all other exposed upper components.
  • Hard chromed "fit in the box" magwell.
  • Slide is color inlaid in contrasting color, both sides.
  • Slide is Tri-topped.
  • Slide is serrated at 20 lpi on top surface.
  • STI custom shop "saber tooth" serrations.
  • Ramped, fully supported barrel.
  • Decorative frame cuts.
  • Pre-contoured grip to match magwell.
  • Dawson fiber optic front sight.
  • STI adjustable rear sight.
  • Square hammer.
  • S-7 tool steel sear.
  • Titanium strut.
  • Ambi thumb safety, hard chromed.
  • High-rise, knuckle relieved grip safety, hard chromed.
  • RecoilMaster.

Well over $2K off the shelf but a serious speed gun and it's not a custom.

You can take this out of the box and be competitive in IPSC if you can shoot worth a shit...
