gumed up cylinder head

I got a call from napa telling me that my cylinder head is finished.they plained it down and did a valve job.He told me that it was gumed up.i asked him why does he think that was,and he asked me if it sat for a while,and i said no.I told him i've used this stuff called restore,and seafoam.he told me that neither of that would do that.it has sat for as long as a week.now since hes not a supra lover like we are i thought some of you experts might maybe know why it was gummed up.Thanks for any responce.

Gummed up with what? I've seen them gummed up with stuff from the oil not being ghanged enough or with cheap oil. I've also seen them gummed up with carbon desposits from cheap gas and not being maintained properly. Could have been both.

Somehow I can see Restore and coolant from BHG and the general neglect that comes with a BHG all contributing to the gumminess.

after they replaced the valves.I use 10w30 sludge protection.could a mixture of cooliant and oil gumm up the system?

If I had any idea what the hell the master mechanics you dropped the car off with were talking about I could probably give you some idea as to what's up. As it is i could only guess: Emulsified oil which is too dense to be cleaned out from regular cleaning. The results of seafoam "cleaning" (see: melting, dissolving) your seals and any excess RTV and vacuum hoses.

The gooey goodness you get from a BHG (coolant + oil) usually cleans off pretty readily when you tank the head.

cleaning a cylinder head isnt very hard... i used some degreaser and my hose with a spray nozzle and it came out looking almost new.

it was probably just "gummed" up with oil... im sure it got all cleaned out, just inspect everything when you get it. and if you have it now just take some pictures and post em up..

and i LOL at the "sell the car now" comment...

I dunno... possibly just PMS (you know, the wife's getting it, so I'm not )... that or the fact that the guys at NAPA are already taking you for more of a ride than it seems you'll ever get out of the car.

Don't mind me... I just thoroughly disagree with your additives of choice and your machinist sounds like a complete con-artist or an idiot... possibly both.

I'm guessing it means there was a lot of varnish/deposits they had to remove and he wants to know what could have caused it. Since there are none that would render a head unusable it's fairly safe to assume he just sucks at structuring a sentence. Either that or some of you suck at figuring simple things out

anywho,i'll show some pics when i get my cylinder head back.can't wait to see it with the new valves and all.thanks guys for all your concerns.i'll let you all know how she proforms when i get her back together.
