Or vent, if you prefer. ;)

Last night I finished assembling the bottom end - with the exception of the rear main oil seal & assembly and the oilpan, I'll do those pretty much dead last - but before I remount the tranny, of course. I had already re-assembled the head previously, so now it's just a matter of bolting parts back onto the engine and dropping it back into the car.

Injectors are currently in getting cleaned and tested. Engine will be silver and black with occasional highlights in red when I am done.

After having the block, crank, and rods checked at my machine shop, I had the crank polished, the cylinders rehoned, and added in new hastings rings and clevite bearings. Add in a nice finish on the head and block deck and a good cleaning all around, some new valve seals, and an HKS MHG, and I should be good to go.

For anyone not familiar with the history, I blew a stock headgasket, destroyed the rings and turned the ringland on piston #2 into sharp bits of sand in the oilpan, plus I had a mild rod knock on #5. There is an entry in the carnage thread with pics. This proves that 20psi on an upgraded turbo is enough to eat a stock headgasket eventually - it did run for over a month before blowing up, which IMO is testament to the fact that the 7M is actually a damn tough engine.

PS: Many thanks to the folks that have helped with info over the last 6 weeks, especially Adjuster. :D And more thanks to those that have helped with labor, especially VanSupra. I owe you both a nice dinner soon!

You going to Vegas this Year?

I'll be there, and they have some great restaurants.... LOL.

Seriously happy to see your engine is coming together well. Hope that the assembly and minor mods you've done add up to a very nice reliable motor that will handle the 20psi + that your shooting for.

I'd have to be very lucky to get it all together, running, and broken in with enough time to spare to make it to Vegas. But I just might... :) I honestly think I'll be happy with 20psi or less, I not as greedy as some of us. :D

Picked up the injectors today, they came out nicely. I had no idea that injectors have a built in filter! I think I need one more hose from Toyota, and a bunch of cleaning, painting, and install time.

Not just stock - but my original pistons for this block, as a matter of fact, just cleaned up.

Here are some pics as she sits at the moment.

Actually, the machine shop cleaned it manually. The fellow there didn't want to hot tank it, as that would trash the oil pump driveshaft bearings, and they were still in perfect condition. It would have killed the frost plugs as well, but that didn't turn out to be an issue because I had them all replaced anyhow.

If he would of hot tanked it in the aluminum cleaner the frost plugs and bearings would have been fine. Just had mine done like that and the plugs came out fine...it is a bit more expensive though.

No new oil pump! I considered it very seriously, however, my machinist checked the one that I have and tells me that it has literally zero wear on it. Not really surprising considering that I still have well under 100k on this engine.

Oddly enough, I had to drill out one of the rivets on my HKS MHG, or it would have been crushed when I torqued the head down - on the very back on the exhaust side. I'd suggest that everyone check all the rivets on their gasket, whatever the brand happens to be, before bolting down the head, ESPECIALLY if you've had the block machined more than once.

More pics... the blue headgasket is what it looks like after you spray it with permatex brake quiet!

Tell your machinist he/she can pay for the next rebuild.
