I used to think along the same lines of weigh transfer, but sometimes you gotta think a bit backwards.
If you lock up your fronts (too much front brake bias), you're going to merely slide in whatever direction the momentum will carry you. If you still can steer, and lock up your rear wheels (hence reducing traction on the rear, causing a slide), you'll get the tail out easily.
